Some people should not be parents. And yes I do blame the parents for behavior of their children. Anyone here can say all they want that it's not the parents fault but kids learn what they live. Also kids are going to make mistakes, we all have that's how we learn and grow. That doesn't mean parents should be so extreme with punishment. Hot sauce and cold showers? That's ridiculous. As per selling the toys to replace the bathtub they would have had to have been doing it for a while for it to get that destroyed. Where were the parents to say no or stop them from doing it? And if they're going to sell the toys I think putting the kids pictures up on ebay is just wrong.

Seriously. You don't have to instill fear in a child, to teach them to do things properly. If you're incapable of teaching your child a lesson without harming them, then you shouldn't be a parent. End of story. It's absolutely absurd that this mother can get away with this.Comment

it's all about discipline. If the kid doesn't want to listen or have common sense, hit him until he does. There's a difference between children abuse and teaching your kid right from wrong. I got hit as a kid, only because I was a dumbass. And I realize, getting spanked made me a man

oh yeah I don't doubt that, but the biggest part of any child's personality is its everyday main influence, namely the parent. I always see these kids throwing hissy fits at the mall and I see their parents acting more or less the same way. It's kinda sad.

Also, many times in public, parents won't hit their kids. It's only in private that they're brave enough to use physical punishment. It creates a double standard that hurts the discipline's effectiveness. Why won't they use it in public? Fear of arrest and child protective services. It's difficult to reinforce something only part of the time. It needs to happen every time, without fail, and without regard for environment.Comment

In regards to the rest of the thread, I am all for child discipline, but to an extent. If a parent is too lenient and does not try to discipline the child at all, the child will just take advantage and do whatever he/she wants without any concern for others. You can yell all you want at your child but they can just ignore you. If you take action, such as taking something away or spanking them, then that will instill a fear that would make them think twice about what they might do. Of course you wouldn't abuse them either.Comment
