Re: What does it take for kids to learn?
lol
The only time I can see spanking as not being "abusive" (traumatic) is if it's 5 spanks max, and done rarely. The thing is, that usually doesn't happen. One solid smack to show a child what it's like could be justifiable, but smacking away at the kid's ass is completely impulsive.Originally posted by hi19hi19oh boy, it's STIFF, I'll stretch before I sit down at the computer so not I'm not as STIFF next time I step a fileComment

Re: What does it take for kids to learn?
So your method to "shut me up" is by posting an absurdly shitty article with an even more laughable study? Good job there, turbo.
who needs science and statistics mang, right? that shit hurts my headdd -- we should just call everything from the gut and call it a night!!!1Comment

Re: What does it take for kids to learn?
I don't get why you'd want to say that you posted an article like that to "shut someone up". It doesn't render the arguments stated against spanking as invalid.Originally posted by hi19hi19oh boy, it's STIFF, I'll stretch before I sit down at the computer so not I'm not as STIFF next time I step a fileComment

Re: What does it take for kids to learn?
It seems like a dominance thing to me, like "Hey, my kids annoying the **** outta me, spanking his ass should shut him up, when it really only makes em cry more."lol

And for whoever posted when the child gets older, hopefully he/she has matured enough not to do such stupid things. Some don't though, my brother got caught with a bb gun on the bus in 8th grade, my dad whipped him with a belt, would any of you find this a good punishment? He got expelled and My mom had to drive him to school and the school was about 5 miles farther than the school he got expelled from.

Re: What does it take for kids to learn?
besides andromeda is a ****ing awesome galaxy. too bad it's like 2 million light years away. luckily, it's on a collision course with our very own milky way galaxy.
besides i'm surprised a spank-loving gay-bashing neophyte ****face like virus003 even knows what andromeda is.Comment

Re: What does it take for kids to learn?
What should be considered is preventing the action from happening in the first place.
The biggest problem with spanking is that it can only be done after the action has occured.Originally posted by hi19hi19oh boy, it's STIFF, I'll stretch before I sit down at the computer so not I'm not as STIFF next time I step a fileComment

Re: What does it take for kids to learn?
i got spanked and turned out alright. i also have a very close and trusting relationship with both of my parents. i never really found anything wrong with it, but it was more of a cultural thing. i also only got spanked for doing things aren't tolerated for children to do to their parents (in my culture) such as swearing, talking back, or anything of that sort
rubix, you're arguing as if there's only one method of disciplining a child. clearly that's not the case in this situation.. this is a fairly controversial and needless to say extremely subjective topic at hand
i think you're all better off agreeing to disagree.. this thread doesn't seem to be going anywhere.Comment

Re: What does it take for kids to learn?
just because there are two different viewpoints doesn't mean they're equally valid. the evidence clearly points towards an overwhelmingly clear conclusion in favor of positive reinforcement over spanking. there are obviously many ways to discipline a child, but that doesn't mean they're all equally good and boil down to "matter of opinion."Comment

Re: What does it take for kids to learn?
Obviously there's more than one method - but spanking isn't that efficient of a tool to use. It's like using a saw to cut a piece of paper in half - it may work, but it's absolute overkill/unnecessary and also uncomfortable. Alternatives would be scissors (easy to use and more efficient for cutting the paper), etc.Last edited by DossarLX ODI; 01-19-2011, 12:46 AM.Originally posted by hi19hi19oh boy, it's STIFF, I'll stretch before I sit down at the computer so not I'm not as STIFF next time I step a fileComment

Re: What does it take for kids to learn?
So you're denying his right to his opinion of statistics and empirical evidence to back up his claims being more effective?
Opinions tend to have a good amount of bias in them, while data collected from experiments are more objective.Originally posted by hi19hi19oh boy, it's STIFF, I'll stretch before I sit down at the computer so not I'm not as STIFF next time I step a fileComment

So what's a good alternative to spanking? That's my point that I'm trying to get to.Obviously there's more than one method - but spanking isn't that efficient of a tool to use.
