    Re: Internet Explorer you pos

dammit guys stop saying "make it your default browser hur" I already did that a long time ago when I first installed it thanks. I'm not as stupid as you might think. That is why I made this thread. Why in the hell is IE popping up with, "CONGRATS YOU WON THIS" when I wasn't using IE in the first place? Maybe it's a problem you've never heard of, anyway thanks to those who actually tried helping.

Your problem would have been much easier to answer had you told us THAT detail. I'm afraid you have malware. Now my methods for removing malware are probably very outdated, as I haven't had to go through the process for quite a few years, but in the future, play it safe when it comes to installing programs and use AdBlock Plus on Firefox. Or Chrome, if you decide to use it.

I've had problems with opera when I went to download certain file types.

Deleiting IE would not effect your FF. Period. The fact that you downloaded it from there has nothing to do with it. Mozilla Firefox had it's own program folder, most likely found in C:/ProgramFiles/MozillaFirefox. Everything you would need is in there. Go ahead and Delete IE, that's that I did.

I wouldn't do that, both FF and Chrome have their pros and cons. Adblock is better on FF and like aperson said, Chrome doesnt support APNG. But Chrome is also more stable, and faster imho.

BUT it does sound like a malware thing now that we have more info, and that's fairly easy to fix.

Try disabling IE. Assuming you're using Windows Vista/7, go to your control panel (Small/Large Icon View), and select 'Programs and Features'. On the right pane select 'Turn Windows Features on or off' and then uncheck IE. This might stop the pop-ups but regardless, it sounds like you have malware. Try downloading an anti-virus like Malware Bytes and run it in Safe-Mode. You might just want to reformat all together.

could be some type of malicious software/program on your computer thats making those popups open to generate revenue for whatever shit they're advertising..

                            I've seen it happen before

Isn't there a rule that says "If you don't know what you're talking about, don't answer the question."?

Also never suggest a reformat for a problem with such a simplistic fix... You seem to have a love for suggesting formatting iirc.

Good on buying Malwarebytes, it's a great program.
