Re: How to pronounce 2011?
What dose that have to do with what I said? I was talking about for "20-09" would just sound like the number 29 "20-9".
I was talking about the pronunciation... 2000 and 10 as two separate number which seems to be a common mistake with some people who don't know how to talk. lmaoAlso, isn't 2000 + 10 = 2010? Rofl just pointing that out.

Re: How to pronounce 2011?
I think a lot of the older folks are still in awe that the century has changed, so I think many people born in the 80's and before will always say two shousand-insert year. People born in the late 90's early 2000's won't be affected by this and will probably smoothly transition into saying 20-11, etc.The weight of what I say depends on how you feel.Comment

Re: How to pronounce 2011?
I'd think it would be the opposite. People born in the late 90s and early 2000s spent more of their life saying "two thousand X" and so would find the habit harder to break.
I was born in the early 80s and had no issue whatsoever transitioning to 'twenty ten' and 'twenty eleven'Comment

Re: How to pronounce 2011?
I cant believe this is a big deal...
On topic: The reason people didn't say "One thousand nine hundred and ninety nine" is because it has 10 fucking syllables and just sounds retarded compared to "two thousand ten" which has 4 syllables. Derp.
EDIT: I'm pretty sure we're not in the year 2011 not 20 11. Just saying.Last edited by [email protected]; 01-4-2011, 07:06 PM.

Re: How to pronounce 2011?
I'm going to start saying "twenty" in 2012. Until then, I'll stay with "two-thousand."
Yeah, part of it is me being sentimental about the 2000s and never wanting to leave that decade. I don't want to feel all old...being in the 3rd decade of life already is a big wake-up call to the finiteness of existence.Comment

Re: How to pronounce 2011?
The proper way to pronounce a year is XXYY, by which I mean, read the year as if it was two separate two-digit numbers. So, Twenty-Ten is correct.
Also, yes, this means year 2000 is not "year two thousand," but "year twenty-oh-zero."Comment

reuben_tate you're an ass who just stirred sh*t up for no damn good reason.
Nobody cares about your opinion, we hate you.
Like others have said, "who gives a damn how you say it?". We all know what we all mean for christ's sake. What a dumb thread.

Re: How to pronounce 2011?
Ad hominem attacks do nothing to support your point. Instead of attacking me and my personal values, why not create a new formal argument, you with the position "We should not care about how we pronounce years" and your valid points and myself with the position "We should care about how we pronounce years" and my valid points.AMA: http://ask.fm/benguino
