He is Korean
It doesn't necessarily hurt you, but it doesn't help.
I'm white, but I am first-genComment

Re: High School Seniors, where are you applying?
I'm Korean, but it's definitely better than being Chinese or Indian..
Not as (many) Koreans live in the US compared to both so.. :P
The vast # of Asians (usually 15%-25% of most private schools) make it very disadvantageous for me at a lot of schools like Stanford, MIT, maybe HYP..
It's better to be first-gen white ^ like Marcus or some really, really, underrepresented minority like Native American or a mix of Hispanic / Black.Comment

-.-
I'm constantly reminded that I only have a slight chance of getting into the several Ivies to which I'm applying thanks to my awesome test scores and decent GPA. Couple extracurriculars, but no outstanding awards/leadership roles = failure.

Re: High School Seniors, where are you applying?
This thread makes me feel dumb.
My highschool GPA was like 3.0, if that. I slacked off too much.
My SAT scores in math were like 35th percentile, English 99's across the board. I didn't even attempt to apply for a college, went on to community college for a few months and took all the fun classes and never went back.Comment

Currently at Yale and asian like you. Hail from California like you. I chose Yale over Harvard, and I'm not regretting it one bit. Loving it.
Will provide stats if requested.Comment

Re: High School Seniors, where are you applying?
USAMO, National Physics, Nat/Int Karate, 4.0 UW, 2400
^ that's what set you apart from all the other generic candidates
none of us here have USAMO/USABO/Intel Siemens ISEF under our belts
let alone national/int karate
