Shopping for a motorcycle

I just sold off one of my cars, my Isuzu Impulse Turbo, which gave me some extra cash. I've always wanted a bike, but only recently started researching them.

Does anyone here own one or has anyone ridden? I've actually never ridden a motorcycle before, but it can't be all that hard, seems like your clutching and shifting simply swap places from hand to foot.

I'm definitely in the market for a sports bike, nothing else. I hate the look and sound of Harley style bikes, they're bulky, slow, and hard to maneuver. Been checking around on craiglist for a bit, and I've come across some really nice bikes, such as this

I talked to the lady selling it, and she's willing to hold it until Friday if I want it (that's the soonest I'd be able to make it out there). Everyone tells me a 1200cc IS NOT A BEGINNERS BIKE. Well, no ****. But it's not like I have to be wide open on the throttle at all times as a beginner, and I learn really fast, so why not start out at the top?

This is my arrogant mindset though. I feel like I can do anything, and probably could hop right on and be fine with this size bike, but I'd want feedback from anyone with experience.

I was looking around at 600's and 750's, but I've heard people say they get bored with them within a few months. Anyone have input?

No really you're going to kill yourself if you even think about hopping on a bike and I'm going to safely assume that you speed, drive recklessly (driving technically is the same thing), and/or street race.

Because I don't like you, I'm going to say go for it hope to see you lose control trying to downshift into a turn in 4th gear and high-side into a telephone pole. But because I'm respectful of all motorcyclists and future want-to-be's, you do not want a 1200cc bike, or even a 1000 for that matter. You're going to drop the bike, no doubt about it, whether it's your first day or fiftieth day, and it's better you learn how to handle a drop with a smaller bike.

triple post because i'd like to reiterate you're going to drop the bike and that bike you're looking at has definietely been in a few crashes before if he's selling it for that low with that many miles on that big of a bike. i wouldn't be surprised after the first drop all of that cosmetic **** that's put on just falls right the hell off rofl

Yeah well, I'm a risk taker. I'm addicted to adrenaline, and it will probably be the end of me, who knows. BUT, that 1200 has never been dropped, her son died 2 months ago (not on it) and wants it gone. rofl.

I think I'll be fine though, I might drive fast but I'm not stupid about it, I've yet to wreck in my 3000GT (or any car for that matter) and I've gotten that to go just as fast as this bike is capable of. ~185mph

ok yea having just finished school to work on bikes that bike is way more than you should have as a beginer definatly find urself a 600 of some sort, theres 2 kinds of riders out there, those who have been down and those who will go down, and especially for your first bike, dont get one thats that loaded, when you drop it your gonna wanna kill someone, get a bike you wont cry over wrecking because its bound to happen, save the nice one for afterwards

I really am against getting something as low as a 600, I think bare minimum for me would be a 750. I don't want to get bored with the power after a few weeks and a 750 seems like it would hold my attention much better than anything lower. A 1000 seems like it would be perfect.

take it from someone who used to have that mentality as a harley rider, bigger isnt nessicary on a sportbike, unless ur looking at entry level like a fz1 ur gonna get urself in trouble with a liter bike and even a 750 is pushing it
