Well I can get that crack all the time. I can do it along with songs like snares/claps xD

Umm, I also hear a bit of a rumble but I remember it being louder when I was youger.
And no, I don't move any other muscles.

I also noticed a long time ago that If I breathe in through my nose really quickly while I'm flexing this, it plugs up my ears. They can be unplugged by flexing again.

That sounds about right then, although the rumble, for me anyway, is definitely more dominant than the cracking. The cracking only happens to me as my ears are clearing.

@cry: You're opening up your eustachian tubes, and since you're breathing in, you're creating a vacuum and depressurizing your inner earway.

I can't hold it any longer than 2.5 seconds
and it only cancels about a third of other noise

Yeah, it isn't constant cracking. Just about half the time as I first flex that muscle. It might not be easy to judge how much noise I block out considering my computer is VERY loud and I'm listening to music at the moment. I can still hear the rumbling, but it doesn't seem to block much of the music. I'll try it again when I go to bed.

Well I did shower half an hour ago. Water in the ear could affect it.

Then you most def aren't hearing what I am, 'crackling' is pretty much the only word to describe it. Actually, 'cracking' is ok too.

Yeah i can do it, I try not to do it much though cause i thought it'd **** my ears up. I do it whenever i need to pop my ears.

Oh! I'd always assumed the crackling was ear wax being separated.

And yeah, if the rumbling's loud when you yawn, that's partly the same thing.

I'm pretty sure none of us are on the same page here.

If you can produce a cracking noise, great, but that's not what I'm talking about in the least bit.

If you can produce a rumbling "earthquake" sound inside of your own head without flexing your jaw, then you can do this.

So far it seems like only rubix and possibly customstuff have control over this muscle from what I've read.
