Anyway, I think a good post involves information which is relevant to the conversation and does not derail the thread, or start a flame war.
Also, avatar posts annoy me greatly.

The post should be relevant to the OP, otherwise it may possibly derail the thread, or may just be a useless post.

A good post for me would make me want to reply in a positive manner

In my opinion, you will probably know a good post when you read one. Similarly, you will also know a poor post when you read one.

If for some reason you cannot decide whether a post is good or not then you either need some more time looking for what you consider to be a good or poor post or you need to spend some more time in the thread to figure out the direction the thread is taking. Some threads require poor posts to be good posts in the thread...

A serious post is one in which the poster is capable of showing that they at least passed the 3rd grade as far as language goes and realizes that posting=/=texting. Also though, it really depends on which sub-forum you're posting in...if its TGB...whats a good post?...whatever makes you laugh and makes fun of others. If it's a serious conversation or debate, something that 1) Matters, 2) Doesnt take an hour to read, 3) Funny

Yeah. Find myself revising my own full stops out of consideration for how others will see me more than often than I'd like. People tend to personify the writing style of others by contrasting it with what they see around them. In my posts, mostly proper grammatical structure and specific vocabulary is seen as grandiloquent, making me seem hostile. I've made enemies in a few communities just by having a tendency to post at a time of day when I'm too tired to care.

I put periods at the ends of sentences because I learned to do that in first grade.

Anybody who finds proper grammar to be hostile or inappropriate is just being an idiot.

True as that may be, in a more contemplative scope people just can't help how they see things. In an early morning not too long ago I logged into a chatroom where one person shortly joined me, and I started typing, mostly to myself about the consequences of being awake on caffeine. After a few lines of typing the guy actually told me off as pompously trying to establish some sort of 'scientific identity'. I left.

Then I guess you're still not clear on what is considered a good post.
