For "serious content" threads, a good post is the one who are relevant to the topic, so trolling posts, in these cases, are lame.

The problem is when people -only- post their ~oPiNi0ns~. Someone disagrees and hostility ensues, resulting in not only a terrible post, but a really bad thread.

I don't know if anyone else thinks this, but when you put a period at the end of the last sentence, it makes you sound a lot more pompous, serious, and maybe even hostile.

Obviously, considering what's a "good" post is subjective, but to me as long as someone can understand the post, it's somewhat worth reading. There's nothing worse than a person typing like "h3y th4r! phr33 st00f plx1111!1!!1".

Personally, I think that feeling comes from the fact that many people are used to typing improperly online with chats and forums, and all of the above, that when someone does use "perfect" grammar, it probably ends up seeming like they are implying superiority.

I think that's going a bit far...I'd say that when you put a period at the end of the sentence in a forum, it often implies that you're being serious in what you're saying (not necessarily as in "attitude", but what you type is what you mean). When I'm not very serious (or don't care), want to make a joke or a snarky remark, I often leave out the period.

Re: I'm curious to know what you consider a good post.

I have never seen Robertsona this serious about a thread before. I do believe a good post should have something to with the thread at hand, but I can't help but like it when people joke around. A thread is a thread and it's going to get trolls. The fact that every once and a while someone is going to piss another user off is unavoidable and people are going to find that they just don't think the same way as others out there. If it comes to be me that you see as that person you just don't like. Well then I apologize I am just trying to enjoy myself while I do however enjoy sticking to topics when I find they haven't already been too derailed for it to matter what I say.

I will use musical lyrics for my siggy.

I actually do agree that jokes every now and then are needed to spice a discussion up (Rubix made a funny analogy in a CT thread for example).

                      Also bmah that's respectable.

robertsona has the best music posts ever

For me, the best posts are the ones that change my mind about an issue. That **** is so tight. I think the last time it happened V was discussing the death penalty.

I also love posts that elicit emotions. Especially hilarity. I love lurking ODI (and TGB pre-FFYa) because everything that happens on those boards is amazing as ****. aperson has these awesomely obscure posts too.

A post should be interesting and in depth depending on what's being talked about.

This just says something about the kind of websites you must visit in general then. I've never seen anyone type like that in my very long life on the internet dating back to 1995 when chat rooms on AOL were the ****ing **** and you felt so cool when you joined one and you pushed 123 to chat with someone when your parents weren't looking.

As far as what makes a good post - I'll generalize a "good" post as one that holds relevance to the originally posted topic at hand. An occasional topic switch is fine, but doing what I did at the beginning of this post is a decent way to turn a thread into crap.

lmfao I remember when we had Earthlink and they had something very similar. I used to get so pissed off because those rooms were ALWAYS full and I ALWAYS had to ask permission to go online because we had dial-up. I remember it well, sitting in agony waiting for my dad to get off the phone with work so I could chat it up and play RuneScape with the rest of the neighborhood kids. Good times.
