As someone who can fully use Windows/Linux/Mac, I honestly think Windows is the best option. It's widely compatible and it'll do everything either of the other operating systems can do, in terms of end-goal equivalence. In Linux, you do have a greater degree of control and customization, but it feels like it's a lot of extra work and know-how for the same results that I can get with Windows.

I agree that if you don't really care that much, go with Windows, but there's a LOT more that makes Linux great. Arguing over it stupid though as if you're using a computer for solely gaming Windows is the best option for the sole purpose games are made for Windows. Windows also runs, and runs everything else a great deal slower, and in an unnecessary complex way.

Except for compatability with games, Linux is more convenient. Ubuntu works out of the box in pretty much every case, and it doesn't break down with malware, ever. I take good care of my Windows partition, and when I used Windows a lot more than I do now, at least once a year, usually way more than that I would have to wipe the Windows partition clean. Windows is simply a not so great OS being pushed by a market rather than actually being pushed because it's good.

I have to agree with fido. I started using Linux this year for my computer science class, and I must say that if Linux had the compatibility with games and files that Windows does, I'd switch to Linux in a heartbeat.

I use Firefox and NoScript on Windows XP (when I was having to reinstall windows twice a year). I didn't use Antivirus because they bog your system down to a point where I would rather take the risk. I also don't click on any shifty .exes. There are just inherent problems with Windows security (although it's improved since XP), and their registry system is totally retarded.

EDIT: Spite, sorry to be a neckbeard Linux pusher but why don't you duel boot? You can simply shrink your Windows partition down by 30G and install Linux on that ;o

make linux as easy to use as windows and you'll probably get more people to switch is all im saying. i used ubuntu for 3-4 months and hated it because i couldnt do anything without knowing **** i didnt care to learn

Give me an example of a task you found difficult. I think you just weren't able to adapt to a new GUI. Ubuntu is MUCH simpler than Windows.
