i don't understand why someone would make a topic asking how to use a windows operating system when the topic post didn't even include any questions

I figured I'd just 'test' windows 7, for a day. No chance in hell I'm going back to Windows XP.

        Windows 7 is WAY faster.
50 second startup on XP = 15 second startup on Win7
Did I mention way faster framerates?

Here's a tip: when looking for things, try and intuitively figure out where they'd be logically, not where they'd be in Windows XP.

For instance, the My Computer thing you were talking about. It's about the desktop, so perhaps changing desktop settings would be correct. So you right-click the desktop. Then the options appear. You want to change your desktop to your liking, so perhaps "Personalization" would be the right option to pick.

It's all very intuitive and streamlined. Besides the amazing new task bar, the ridiculous new search mechanism is fantastic. I don't even have to navigate to files anymore. Windows key > type file name > hit Enter.

Here's the the way I see it.

                XP > Windows 7 > a rock > Vista

                Hey, but that's just me.

Edit: I've used Windows 7 for like 6 months now, and have used Vista for a year as well as XP for over 3 years.

Re: Please teach a 6yr WinXP user how to use Win7

I use my windows xp laptop and vista pc daily and I don't notice any major differences in navigating through the GUI.

My documents has a slightly different set up, but nothing weird. Clicking on the button in the start menu to bring up the list of all programs on vista/windows 7 keeps them all within the size of the original drop down menu.

Right clicking and going to properties on vista/windows 7 brings up a menu with little pictures instead of immediately going to the menu you are used to. But clicking on any of those options will bring up that menu anyway. There are a few added things in the control panel.

Oh, on vista/windows 7 there is a little menu right under the adress bar of the folder to let you change the view type and sort by things. And if you are in the "my computer" folder there is a button there to go to the add/remove programs.

Everything else thats different on the GUI is really minor or just different graphics.

I'm a pretty solid user of XP. I'm so used to doing things 'exactly' how they're done. That all these new ways to do everything seems too easy. Personally I'd rather browse to my file than just search it.

I'm getting the hang of the system though. No chance I'll switch back.

My Windows 98 computer has a 4 second startup.
                      You should get that.
