Breastfeeding Doll for kids

For Breastfeeding Awareness Month, the Spanish toymaker Berjuan has released a new breastfeeding doll called Bebé Glotón (Gluttonous Baby) with the slogan "Because you shouldn’t have to wait until you have breasts before you start breastfeeding your baby."

To play with the doll, girls strap on a halter top with flat flower patches to stand in for nipples. When the baby (both boy and girl versions are available) is brought close to the flower patch nipples, it makes sucking noises and opens and closes its mouth. If moved too far away from the flowers or nursed incorrectly, it cries until burped.

I personally think this is kinda disturbing. Being a mother myself I wouldn't buy this for my child. I don't think little 10 year old girls should be pretending how to breast feed >_>

I dunno, a lot of other dolls promote using bottles and formula. Breast feeding is another means of feeding your child, and should be considered too. I think the implementation is weird (floral nips hehe) but I dunno, it seems weird to promote bottle feeding exclusively, especially when groups like the World Health Organization promote breastfeeding as the healthiest thing for both mother and child.

I understand that breasts are perceived as a sexual object, but at their core they're intended for feeding.

I dunno, a lot of other dolls promote using bottles and formula. Breast feeding is another means of feeding your child, and should be considered too. You make a good point. But these dolls to me make 13yr old girls think they can be a mommy. I don't know how many shows I've seen of these girls that say oh I can take care of a baby I wanna get pregnant and they carry around these types of dolls thinking it gives them any idea of what the real thing is like.

I'm pretty sure baby dolls have been around for a pretty long time, and that this isn't so different. Bottles don't even require you to have developed breasts, would those not be worse? It's arguable that they promote gender roles to some degree, but that's slightly tangenting away from the subject.
