Do you wear shoes in the house?

It's something I've been pondering recently. I remember I used to go to the house of my parent's friend, and all of the guests were conversing away with their outdoor shoes in the house, from carpet and rug to tile and wooden floor. I couldn't understand why people would have such low standards for sanitation around their own house. In fact, it was only recently that I realized it was a cultural thing. I don't find that any excuse, because insisting on decent sanitation in the house should just be plain common sense, and not a fact of whether you're Asian and hence "care more about being clean".

If the shoes are indoors, such as night slippers, I don't mind, but it does disturb me when people walk around the house with whatever they picked up from the outdoors. I've even heard that some people sleep with the same shoes in bed!


So do you wear outdoor shoes around the house or not?

I usually put my shoes/sandals in my garage or on a rug near the main door. I never walk inside with footwear on, with the exception of socks.

Yeah haha. Unless I've been walking around in mud all day, none of my family seems to have a problem with it. Sometimes in the summer, I'll wear flip flops inside, but that's to keep my feet cool, not for sanitary reasons.

my mom has been trying for years to make our house a clean place and to have everyone take their shoes off but it never quite seems to work. but when you have 5 cats and barf on your rugs on a regular basis, dirt from shoes isn't a big deal...

so i put my shoes on in my room and walk around the house then leave, then come back and take them off in my room =/


but my best friend has a house where we cant have shoes on. so to each his own

I live in kind of a "country" place. I don't know anyone around here who takes their shoes off before entering the house.
Although right now I'm not wearing shoes, that's because of a slight infection that I'm trying to let clear up.

I never go inside a house with shoes on. xD It actually really bugs me when one of my friends comes inside with shoes on, so I tell them to leave them outside.

I think my parents drilled it into my head that shoes are not acceptable inside, xD

My family has never really felt the need to take off our shoes before going in our house because we usually put them in a closet/bedroom right after anyway.

Well that's what I do. I don't necessarily mean strictly taking your shoes off before taking a step in the house. I'm talking about people who walk around in the kitchen after coming home from work on a rainy day or something like that.

I usually don't wear shoes indoors but that's just because I feel more comfortable barefoot. My family doesn't really care at all.

Yeah, since houses are apartments in flats in my country. You HAVE to take off your shoes, or you'll pretty much mess up the house.

Yeah, it's kind of uncomfortable wearing shoes in the house. I just walk around in socks, and in the summer, I'm usually barefoot.

I usually don't wear shoes indoors but that's just because I feel more comfortable barefoot. My family doesn't really care at all.

I have shoes on for half a second, and that's when I first walk in. Then I just take shoes off and put them on the rack.


Wearing shoes in the house =/= comfortable

It's not really a big deal in my family, but I generally keep shoes off my feet whenever possible. Like jugglinguy said, not comfortable.
Until they make shoes so comfortable you can't feel them on your feet, I'd rather go barefoot.

I put my shoes on a mat almost as soon as I walk in the door. Although, my parents don't particularly care either way.
