Re: Conficker-Anyone hear about it?
Choo choo, here comes the spam train, it's gonna de-rail this thread!
>_>;;
So like, my buddy's dad got Conficker on one of the computers in his network. He runs a small business and has about 16 computers. Conficker kept re-opening itself or something on this one computer, and it was being very slow. Turns out that the computer had 891 processes running, so he unplugged it, and then it didn't come back on when we plugged it back in.
Not sure what he's gonna do to fix it. :/

NFD and Oni-Paranoia, you two are on par with each other forum-status-wise. Stop bickering and accept your social class.
So I talked to my friend's dad over the phone, and he's gonna overnight a new 500GB Seagate HD (same HD as the one in my computer!
), and he's sure that will fix the program. He doesn't need to back-up because he can just get the essential data from another machine.
He got it for $129.99... pretty amazing how fast technology is moving... just last year a good 500GB would have been at least $240. Either way, cheaper than buying a new minitower in the long run.

Re: Conficker-Anyone hear about it?
STFU Oni you're not being clever nor does anybody find you amusing. By all means if you want to keep posting like this go ahead, we'll enjoy your ban.
Turns out the small ISP that does my school and another one was actually just DDoS'd by a bunch of noobs running batch files on all the computers they could in the school. Me and the IT guy at my school were talking about it, pretty stupid =/. I thought Conflicker was going ot fuk shyte up for a moment.
This is because SSHDs have come out (Solid State). They're lightning fast and don't make that annoying ticking noise. They've been out for a while but just recently they've become easily affordable so that's why the prices of normal HDs have dropped tremendously.Last edited by fido123; 04-3-2009, 03:03 PM.Comment

Re: Conficker-Anyone hear about it?
Oh yeah... I remember reading about those in Computer Shopper a couple months ago. Don't they use a different file system than the NTFS system? If that were so, would it reduce/eliminate the threat of Conficker?
Still impractical for businesses though... IIRC a 128GB SSHD is about $250 >_<, versus a standard HD where you can get 1TB for that price. An SSHD would still be really nice to have though, especially for gaming

Re: Conficker-Anyone hear about it?
Still uses NTFS...Windows 7 if I recall correctly uses a newer one, I hope to god it'll use EXT3, so much better. Also it would do nothing to hinder the virus, same file system and data types.Comment
