Yeah the slowest part about Dan Brown's method is the ending... where you have to get the top cross, then fix the edges, then permute the corners, then orient the corners using the Ri, Di, R, D algorithm.

I get the top cross, then orient all corners using 1 single algorithm, then PLL.

So yeah, if anybody is trying to learn fridrich method, start with PLL because its easiest to learn... (since there are only 21 algs)

Great. I created this thread specifically to avoid the topic of fastest times, and everybody starts posting their fastest times.

Could some speedcubver at least share where he/she learned the best PLL algorithms?

          woops terribly sorry. lol

          i learned PLL here http://www.cubewhiz.com/pll.html

          these are good algorithms

Haha, I'm trying to learn how to solve one, but er... I've been at a loss since Christmas, when I got one...
Guy at work I gave mine to, solved it in 2 minutes 20, and even that shocked me.

            *EDIT*

Haha, first post on FFR forums...nice

I use a different algorithm for case 5. It's much shorter.
              I use M2 U M2 U Mi U2 M2 U2 Mi U2.

              Shortcuts for layer 1:

              img 1: Ri D R Y L D Li
              img 2: Ri Di R
img 3: (yellow is on bottom) Ri D R D2 Ri Di R
img 4: Y L Di Li Yi Ri Di R
              img 5: Y L D Li

              shortcut for layer 2:

face the red side and do:
              U R Ui Ri Ui Y Li U L

I have a 12 move algorithm that flows for this as opposed to the 15 move chunky one.

              do R U Ri U2 R U2 d Ri Ui R

              That's all I got. I still do 2 look OLL/PLL.

What I meant was was there any strategies available for a 4x4 or a 5x5 rubiks cube. Cause i'm helplessly lost in the 4x4, I can only get the inner layers done.

The larger cubes are not much harder. Center pieces can be solved intuitively. So can wings/edges. The only hard part is solving parity issues. Then, you've got yourself a large 3x3x3.

I learned many of my PLLs at macky's site, although I think I got most of them from Katsu's site as well.

I learned all of my OLLs at macky's site. Honestly though, only learning LL algorithms isn't going to much faster if you don't focus on everything else, which is definitely more important if speed is your primary concern.

F2L corner/edge pair insertion is the meat of your speed, to be honest. Even if you know all the algorithms, a sucky F2L = sucky overall times.

I find F2L more confusing - it's easier simply to recognize OLL and PLL cases. Straightforward memorization is easier for me than anything that requires intution (hence my slow cross setup).

And thanks to everyone who posted tips - I'll be sure to use them.

I dont really have any tips becuase I dont solve it Fridricks way and I am only good at Dan Browns way.

                            PS

I just beat my 4x4 and 5x5 record today XD. Went from 2:54.56 to 2:21.22 on the 4x4!!! And I went from only 4:57.92 to 4:49.36 on the 5x5.

Rushyrulz, could you link me to a description of your cube notation? It's different from the one I learned, and it confuses me...Also, I solve the cube with the cross on the bottom or side, never on top (ha ha), but I guess I could get used to the algorithms.

Edit: Wait..."i" basically means counterclockwise, and "y" is a rotation to the right, correct?

Thread revival (I didn't want to create a new thread, sorry).

So I've basically nearly finished learning Fridrich. I learned F2L mostly intuitively, but I'm going to continue looking up algorithms because mine are ridiculously slow and involve too many rotations. Only 10 more OLLs to go!

However, one thing I still need help with are N-permutations for PLL. (If you don't know what N-perms are, look at cases #12 and #13 on this page.) Anybody wish to share quicker algorithms?
