Which books here are the shortest?

    Which books here are the shortest?

    So my english teacher is making us do a little project for this quarter and the next and we have to choose a book and do a bunch of stuff with it. Out of the books listed in the following scans, which ones are short yet interesting. Please tell me how many pages it has and why it was interesting.

      Hey don't look for short ones look for good ones :O.

      Brb with list and stuff.

      EDIT: The Pearl by John Steinbeck is really short (around 100 pages) and easy to understand and analyze.

      So is The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway (around 120-130 pages (?)), although depending on who you are you might think it's boring as all hell.

      But really, a personal choice? Into the Wild. It's a captivating story and the book's not too long if I remember correctly. The movie's also sweet, slightly off-topic.

      EDIT2: Alice in Wonderland could be an interesting choice.

      If you hadn't said "short", I would have suggested Roots, a great African-American classic, but around 600 pages.

      EDIT3: If you like fantasy, Asimov's I Robot, Verne's War of the Worlds or any of the J.R.R. Tolkien books would be a good choice (though long, in Tolkien's case).

          But seriously, just because a book is short doesn't mean it's the best book. There are a TON of books that are interesting in your list that are at least 250+ pages. I would've recommended that you read Animal Farm by George Orwell because it's short and an interesting read, but it's not on the list. I have a lot of books to suggest from your list, but I'm not sure if they are too long for your taste :P

          I heard that A Child Called It was really interesting btw. I also recommend Nancy Farmer books (ie. The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm; House of Scorpions) Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy is also an interesting book

              Five People you Meet in Heaven was amazing, plus there's a movie on it...I suggest reading the book but if you're lazy as hell and awesome like me http://www.wikisummaries.com/ ftw

                      Should read Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

                      You shouldn't talk down to people you don't know anything about, acting like you know more and then try to show them up in the forum. That's how you get absolutely no where.

                              The Martian Chronicles. Short, and incredibly good. One of the best ever.

                                  If you want the shortest then I think you should read gone with the wind.

                                  A better idea is to just look at a description of each of the books, find out which interests you the most, and read that one. Even if you choose the shortest book, if its not interesting at all you're gonna be more bored than if you find a book you can enjoy.

                                          Wasn't it made into a movie? I think I remember watching something like that. I should read that book :O

                                              It was made into a movie, but as per usual, the book trumps the movie by multiple magnitudes of order.

                                              I've read a lot of books at this point and it is so far the only book to make me feel any kind of lasting emotion. The Five People You Meet In Heaven really pulled on my heartstrings.

                                                  D: it's the whole canon.

                                                  Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow are shortish, very easy, and tons of fun to read.

                                                  I've been told Dune is excellent, but I haven't read it myself.

                                                  Jane Austen is good all-around, and fairly short, but difficult to read if you don't like the style.

                                                  Ray Bradbury is generally good, as well as J.D. Salinger. Catcher in the Rye is really fun.

                                                  Personally, I can't stand Hemingway's writing, but he's relatively easy to read.

                                                  I'm kinda surprised Conrad isn't on there.

                                                  And you should go read The Raw Shark Texts for a good book outside of school.

                                                          Not on the list, but I just read Poison Ivy by Amy Goldman Koss and thought it was pretty friggin' amazing. Finished in one sitting.
