As far as your dilemma with your neighbor is concerned, I don't think upping your bass will get him to stop. Strategies that get him to stop the madness really depend on your neighbor's personality.

I use Bose Companion 2 desktop speakers. They pump out the bass better than any 2-channel system (without a subwoofer) I've seen. With 24-bit discrete audio the sound is even better. I had a 5.1 setup back at my dorm room in college, but I had to move those speakers to the living room since my room at home isn't as large. That was a royal pain to set up, but glorious for gaming and home theater applications.

I use Bose around-ear headphones at night when everyone has turned in to avoid the "I Hate My Neighbor" issue. They cancel noise very well, but will bring out the flaws in audio with lower bitrates, such as those from FFR R1.

Take whatever program you listen music to, and go into the EQ panel, and if it's like iTunes with the 10-band EQ, just boost the 32 and 64 Hz bands to the max. It's the ~30Hz that will really travel.

As for my speakers, I've got a pair of JBL 4328 studio monitors:

And no, that's not an enema, that's for the speakers' EQing.

Yea I know...they used to be my dads and he got these Altec Lansing speakers so I realized one day, "Hey my dad isn't using these ones so I'll take them!" And they are better than the stock pieces of **** that came with my computer.

Your speakers are sick...I'd love to get something big like that, but I don't have a lot of room at my apartment.

My dad has a set of two studio sized JBLs stacked on top of each other. I want those when he dies, rofl.

Well, at the very least, I can compete. If I turn my **** up loud enough, I won't hear his, and that's fine with me. I also bought those Skullcandys so if I didn't feel like pissing off every one else in the building, I could put those on and tune his **** out.

I have the ones in the OP hooked up to my computer. (the second ones, logitech z etc.) They are absolutely amazing especially for the price, it's pretty cheap

Those speakers should drown him out just fine I'd think. I only go about half way then the fan in the livving room starts shaking

There's also the 4326's which are with 6" subs... a bit smaller, and superb sound quality.

They're also not cheap, but since I had the chance and want to focus on music production, I thought it'd be stupid for me not to get something like these.

I've had a similar issue with the room above me, they really rowdy or something and bang on the floor a lot. Ive gone up there a few times and they just play stupid. Unfortunately i cant fight back because they are above me. Oh well, next year i reserved a room for the top floor in the corner. Little a chance as possible for people to annoy me.

Slash their tires, bust a window, throw a brick through their window (or any object of your choosing), leave a 'blood stained' note for them, hit the ceiling with a broom or something, go to the basement and **** with their water heater/electricity/cable... I grew up in the projects. I'm telling you now, if you don't wanna put your fists up and go rounds there's ALWAYS a way to still fight back.
