Re: Michael Phelps In Twouble
I'm not saying the law is always right, I'm simply saying he shouldn't be sympathized as he knew the the consequences for his actions would be. I'm not saying look down upon him, and I do think he is doing a good job at handling it. You can fault the guy for his actions but you can also forgive him and look up to how he's dealing with it.I call it an unjust law. You think the law is always right?
Let me put it in context: couple hundred years ago, black people were like an iPod or a couch. They weren't people, and didn't have rights. They were property. That was law. Attempting to do things which were rightful to a free man was breaking the law. Was that right?
I don't think the law is always right, and in any case, it's true he should have kept in mind who he was and what his role in society was, but he took responsibility for what he did and is owning up to it. I could hardly fault the guy.Comment

Re: Michael Phelps In Twouble
If he did acid while swimming and breaking records, that would be one AWESOME story.
I saw this on TV today. People now-a-days are way too obsessed with snooping on celebrities' personal lives.
Who cares what famous people do outside of there "jobs" (swimming = his job?), but had been doing this while swimming competitively he would have gotten in (prepare for lame pun) Deep Water and gotten in a whole bunch more trouble. But seriously, how good would he be able to swim if he is chonged out of his skull.

Re: Michael Phelps In Twouble
See, this is what happens. There are some star athletes that can handle the fame and glory, and some that can't. You wouldn't think it would be easy to screw up something great, but it can happen, and quickly.
The same thing happened with Timmy Smith, who many of you probably have no clue who he is. In Super Bowl 22 in 1988, he set a Super Bowl record with 204 rushing yards. He was the greatest running back in the world for one day, and one day only. After that, he quickly went back to his role as backup, and a few years ago, this happened:
This just goes to show you that even today, people can't catch a break.Comment

Uhh, I'd say there's a pretty big difference between selling cocaine and smoking some pot..

Re: Michael Phelps In Twouble
Yeah, he broke the law. Arguing that the law is wrong won't change that he shouldn't have broken the law. What is wrong is that his personal life is being publicized. And really one's image has strikingly little to do with one's personal life so this shouldn't have been news and as long as he isn't toking up on Wheaties boxes his sponsors shouldn't care either. It's unfair that he's singled out because he's a celebrity, that's all.Back to "Back to Earth"

It's because people hold celebrities to higher standards.Yeah, he broke the law. Arguing that the law is wrong won't change that he shouldn't have broken the law. I mean yeah, I'll admit, if an area man went and did that, it would just be a normal news story on the 10:00 news. But when a celebrity does something like that, especially unexpectedly, there has to be a breaking news story.
Also, who REALLY expected Michael Phelps to do this? Seriously, he was the LAST guy that I thought would go and smoke pot.Last edited by footbull3196; 02-2-2009, 05:19 PM.Comment

Yeah people expect so much from Britney Spears.
It's more that bored morons care way too much about what these people do in their spare time.Back to "Back to Earth"
