    Way to go, BBC readers.

I'm looking at the BBC news site, as anyone would do at half past six in the morning, reading the headlines... Just the usual bombs here, stabbing there, dead people have names, some guy did something and now there's new about it.
Then I see the "Most popular Stories" column. Thinking there might be something decent too look at on there, I scroll down some more... You'll never guess what the number one, most popular story was. Which is why I'm going to tell you.

    Counting down from 5.
    5. Saudi tanker 'freed off Somalia' - Fair enough, general news.. could be interesting.
    4. Press reaction to Satyam scandal - HOLY DRAMA, BATMAN!
    3. Breathing life into Niger Delta clinics - Saving the world, one Niger Delta clinic at a time.
    2. Indian IT scandal boss arrested - Uhm, congrats?

But here. The MOST POPULAR story of today.
    1. Dalmatian gives birth to 18 pups

Wow, just wow. Forget about people suffering, or anything life changing.
A DOG GAVE BIRTH TO PUPPIES! OH DAMN. STOP EVERYTHING.

Discuss - How stupid the general public are.. or something not quite as drastic, but something along the lines of ridiculous things that become popular.

I don't see the problem with that, war and people suffering has been nothing but 90% of news the last 2-3 years, I'm not surprised that a dog story takes first place.

But this is BBC I'm talking about. They're serious about everything.
But I must say, doing some more digging.. this is pretty amusing.
BBC, News, BBC News, news online, world, uk, international, foreign, british, online, service

They do have a sense of humour, but it's the fact it's not even important. My next door neighbour's rodents gave birth to a bunch of baby rodents. Where's the news story on that?

It's nice to see a positive news story occasionally, or at least a story that isn't drenched in blood. Even a serious news agency (and I'm just taking your word for it that BBC is serious about everything) shouldn't just print doom and gloom 24/7.

Also, I'm sure you can see the difference between a rodent giving birth to "a bunch" of baby rodents and a dalmatian giving birth to eighteen pups.

my goodness, that is a lot of puppies.

I agree with what has been said already - I am tired of hearing about nothing but problems, i appreciate hearing some uplifting news once in a while. i still read the regular news of course, as do most people. but everyone needs a break every once in a while
