So I'm getting a new laptop for Christmas...

I have a choice between two laptops. Yeah, the price may seem cheap, but we aren't made of too much money =/.

    So here are the choices:

    Toshiba 15.4" Satellite Intel Dual-Core T3200 2.0GHz Laptop (L300-04N)

    Toshiba Satellite 15.4" Laptop featuring AMD Turion 64 X2 Processor TL-60 (L300D-028)

I'm leaning more towards the latter, but I want YOUR opinion.

I'm looking for a laptop that is fast, but can hold quite a bit of memory (so a big HDD) since I download quite a bit (especially with C75 coming up). I mostly use my laptop for audio editing (Audacity, etc.), audio and video converting, playing games (doujin games such as Touhou, a lot of Touhou, stepmania, Doom 95, some FFR and other flash games, etc.), internet, videos, flash, images, possibly Photoshop, some programming, and homework assignments.

Now I know that about every program should work with 32bit OS's, but the former has a 64bit OS, which may have some effect with some programs I use (likely with the older programs), BUT it is faster than the latter.

I'm buying it tomorrow afternoon so I expect enough responses through the poll and posts and I'll post when I'm about to leave to go purchase my laptop.

PS: If you vote in the poll, PLEASE GIVE A REASON FOR YOUR CHOICE!

1st one seems alot better except the resolution of the screen seems abnormally low.

I've been using a Toshiba Satellite for the last three years.

Just wanted to say I've never had a problem, and I love them.

Why not go for a 17" or something?

With that said, I picked the first one.

You're not really doing anything process intensive so I would go with the AMD. AMD/ATI isn't as good as Intel but it makes up for it in price. The cheaper one has MORE than enough RAM to do you good, and the more RAM you have doesn't make your computer go faster...it's just when you run out of it it's slow as hell as it has to start using your slow hardrive for paged memory. The hardrive in the AMD one is 70G bigger too which would help you with your storage problem. Also 64bit OS's work with 32bit software...you just don't get the 64bit capabilities (If I'm wrong let me know...I'm not sure of this 100% but I'm pretty damn sure I'm right).

In short get the AMD one...fits your needs at the lowest cost possible.

The first one is nice especially with 4 gigs of ram, and 250 gigs is still a good amount of space. There both good though.

Thing is would he use 4G of RAM? When I'm playing WoW max settings, have YIM, MSN, AIM, Hamachi, and CSS (Waiting for people to come on for raids), along with Foobar and FireFox...I only use 1.8G or RAM.

Ok well having 4GB on Vista is like putting an extra cup of sugar in a cup of Sunny D. It's going to be a little sweeter, but did you really need it?

The system bus runs at 1600MHz on the second one, while the first is @ 667Mhz.
Both have a considerable speed for the CPU @ ~ 2GHz.
3GB of RAM gets the job done, the processor and system bus will be pretty fast for what you are asking for so it should help applications run a bit smoother and on demand.

Voted for the second one. It's pretty obvious why.

The first one is better than the second one in every comparison save hard drive space (and the difference there is a measly 70 GB). The first one is only $50 more, so go for it. (Intel > AMD, 4GB ram > 3 GB ram, Intel GMA 4500 > ATI Radeon X1250)

wow izzy... well after a little research, even with the smaller system bus and the intel core comes out on top for most needs. The two are practically identical, and both video cards have good ratings, except one is smaller than the other in maximum resolution. If you want to spend a little more for a few mundane points in superiority go for the former. I on the other hand would go for the latter as it's a great price with more storage, which you said is your main focus.

Looking at the polls and the posts, I noticed that some people who voted in the poll DID NOT post their reason, therefore I will disregard their vote unless they post a sufficient reason.

Right now, looking at the posts, I'm leaning a bit more towards the latter now. There isn't enough reasoning behind the former to purchase that for now.

I'll be back in a couple of hours (not buying it yet), by the time return and look at the posts and polls I'll make my decision.
