Re: Athiest sign
Why do you think in the OP that "holiday" is is in quotes? I personally like calling it Christmas.Anyone who is in this thread and who doesn't watch Keith Olbermann needs to do so. He talked about something similar to this earlier tonight.
I think it is completely ridiculous that something like this is on display at Capital Hill. Atheism isn't a religion, rather an "explicit position". I am actually infuriated that they would put something like this on that ****ing tree.
And for God's sake, call it ****ing Christmas. I wouldn't have any problem with someone else saying "Happy Hanukkah"Comment

I think this falls under the "2 wrongs don't make a right" category.
It does seem a little tactless to call all religious people "hard-hearted slaves to myth and superstition" around Christmastime, IMO.Comment

Excuse me? We don't call ourselves hoes at least.
But yeas still the fact is that it was just where and when to place the sign. Wrong time. Good place though.Comment

Re: Athiest sign
Religion is not the only reason to celebrate. Look at Valentine's Day. Is the basic idea of romantic love religious? Christmas? Giving gifts is explicitly religious? And how about New Years?
Take a look at the first amendment. Does it say "freedom of speech (except if it offends someone)"? **** no. Get the **** out of here.
It's not organized like "Catholicism", but it is a loose affiliation of like-minded people in the same way the umbrella term "Christian" is.Atheism isn't a religion
How do you define "religion"? Because atheism is defined as a specific belief regarding a god. And it's recognized as a religious choice for purposes of population counting. Just because people don't meet in a church to talk about their religion doesn't mean that their beliefs are not a religion themselves. Tons of people in the United States don't go to church, but would still call themselves "Christian". Because they have a specific belief regarding the nature of god and religious allegiance is about more than groupthink circlejerks.I did read the article. Atheism is not a religion.

Re: Athiest sign
Afrobean, you are amathing. I second that.
Perhaps there should be signs for every religion there. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the bible does state Love thy neighbor as thyself, as well as judge not lest he shall be judged. I'm thinking the Christians should look up Mathew 5:14-16. I mean, isn't the goal of Christianity to live a christ-like life and make it back to God? Would Jesus say, "Hey I believe in Jesus Christ and if you don't, that's alright cause you're gonna fry like a Jimmy Dean pure pork sausage." Isn't it obvious that both are going to think they're right no matter what the other does.

Re: Athiest sign
I repeat.
Atheism is a religion according to the federal government.
Atheists have all the same rights to display religious symbols that Christians do.
Get off your high horse. Just because your religion is the most popular doesn't mean it's the best one.Comment

Re: Athiest sign
A lot of the highly religious people are very hypocritical. They like to scream about being oppressed if someone talks **** against their religion but they'll think it's a-OK to blast other beliefs like atheism.Afrobean, you are amathing. I second that.

They don't stand back and realize that they may be breaking their own religious rules, or, and here's the one I actually care about, the Bill of Rights.
ps squeek: needs more "groupthink circlejerk" rhetoric.
