Well in my opinion men aren't exactly better than women, but most women usually don't seem to do some of the stuff the men do (like football or wrestling.)

Black people don't do crap either. Does that mean blacks are inferior? Anything you can think that black people did, women did too. Black people make good music. Women make good music. A black guy is running for president. So did Hillary. etc.

My point is that there is a SYSTEM in effect here, pushing these groups down. It's not that they are worse at things. It's that they don't get the CHANCE. Ever heard of the glass ceiling? It's not that women can't do anything. It's that there is a system in effect preventing them from doing things. Same with black people. There is a system in effect pushing them down.

Those systems are subtle racism and sexism. Hardly anybody is "outright" sexist or racist. We don't go "Man, black people are stupid" (well, not usually. I wouldn't put it past the people in this thread agreeing with Dick.) But underneath the surface, our society is very racist and sexist and there are systems in place preventing blacks and women from doing the things that white men seem to accomplish.

Dick's arguments are very deceiving. Sure, most great achievements were done by men. But did you ever notice they are also white old men? I guess you have to be white to do anything good. Aren't asians really smart? Oh but asians don't do any good stuff either. I mean you've got David Suzuki. That's about it.

His arguments are deceptively appealing. "Men do all the good things!" Well, yes. White men do do everything. But it doesn't follow from this that men are BETTER than women. It is the way our society is structured. Women are expected to do certain things and men are expected to do other things. Women are put in their place, not explicitly, but implicitly. Think about it. When women act out, they're found to be offensive. Angry women turn everyone off. We don't like them. But angry men with an agenda are respected. They get things done. They don't turn people off. We like men who are standing up for something. But we want women to sit back down and be content with what they've got.

Think about a good, female cook. She might be encouraged to be a housewife and provide for her family. She'll be praised for being such a good mother. Everyone raves about her cooking, but they don't encourage her to do anything with it.

Now think about a good, male cook. He will probably be encouraged to go to cooking school, learn to compete with the best chefs, and start his own restaurant. Nobody tells him, "Oh, you'll make your children really happy someday. You should be a house-husband and cook for your family." Even if he is an amazing cook, we will probably still expect his wife to cook for the family, ESPECIALLY since he's cooking enough at work and is tired of it.

In other words, we encourage men and women to do different things.

It's a whole system of things like this that prevents women from achieving. NOT their inherent, inborn qualities. It's societal.

I can't honestly believe that somebody had the NERVE to post this. Who cares who's better? "men vs women" is exactly like "boys vs girls" COMPLETELY CHILDISH! I personally think this guy should experience the most painful death in existence. For example. Look at a man and a woman living alone by themselves. The man's house is probably a pig stye, he probably eats our at a restaurant 4-7 days in a week, goes through a bunch of beer, the only thing he respects (if he respects anybody at all) are his "sport-heroes" because they do SO much to make the world a better place, covets his little dolls (oops I mean vintage-action figures) and probably has a low-life job. A woman's house will be spotless, she will be cooking her own food, going grocery shopping. Why would her house be so clean, may you ask? Because she doesn't get her drinking buddies around the house to watch sunday night football. Also take for example. Over 80% of the people in jail are MEN (rapists, con-artists, murderers). I'm not saying that women are better than men (otherwise I would be as low as this guy). Im saying I just don't care who's better. Nobody should. Men are equal to women. END OF STORY.

Stephanie Kwolek was born in 1923 in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. She had a penchant as a child for exploring the natural world with her father, collecting wildflowers and seeds for her scrapbook. "When I joined DuPont in 1946," Kwolek remarked, "women were having a very difficult time in science. Women who got jobs in the lab would stay only a few years; they were encouraged to move into so-called 'women's fields.' They were not promoted as rapidly as the men--women I know, even Ph.D. women, lasted about two or three years, and then went back to teaching, frequently at a women's college. But there were some of us who decided to stick it out, and I was one."

Kwolek's work focused on polymers, the long, chain molecules at the base of synthetic fibers like nylon. She concentrated on finding polymers that would dissolve at low heat so they could be spun into fibers at room temperature. When she was assigned to research extra strong and stable polymers in 1964, she turned to liquid crystal solutions in which all the molecules line up in one direction--like a string of pearls, as she often described it. Her experiments yielded a solution unlike any she'd ever seen. While most polymer solutions were thick and clear, like syrup, this was thin and hazy-looking. Its milky texture made the technician nervous about putting the solution into the fiber-making machine, called a spinneret. He thought there probably were solid particles that would clog up the spinneret's fine holes. But Kwolek convinced him that the solution was safe to spin, and the resulting fibers were exceptionally strong--much stronger than steel, in fact.

Today, Kevlar is found in a range of products, from bullet-resistant vests to ropes that anchor oil rigs to the ocean floor to skis. And Stephanie Kwolek, who retired in 1986 with 17 patents to her name and was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 1995, doesn't regret not making it to medical school. "Most chemists," she said, "work all their lives . . . and are never able to participate in a discovery that has done so much good as Kevlar."

Found an exception, and it's a pretty damn good one; kevlar is used in many professions where people need to be protected, like the police or the army.

Many prominent women in their strong jobs have to do math all of the time, whether or not they are real estate workers, or simply an accountant. Not all of the people in our local and federal offices are men; they have to create a budget too.

They can't own companies.

While many of the largest firms are held together by men, you CANNOT say that there is not ONE women owned company.

You can't blame women for what they do wrong in the same way that you can't blame a dog for what it does wrong; it's your fault for not training them.

Yeah, and men make just as many mistakes. Many women are self-reliant, they don't need the men to support them, and when the men make a mistake, such as infidelity to a relationship, guess what, they tell you to go to hell. It's that simple.
