    My health history

So I looked back at my most recent doctor appointment (which was like a year ago?) and the doctor said I had normal weight gain, a relatively stable diet, and stable blood pressure. Although, she did say I was slightly overweight for my height. So, I didn't think that was bad, but until one week from today I didn't think it was such a big deal.

When I took my resting heart rate for one minute, it was 83 beats per minute. Yes, My resting heart rate is 83 beats a minute. (43,624,800 beats a year.) I was so freaked out at this, because when I exercise my heart rate exceeds 90 beats per minute. That is utterly ridiculous. The average resting heart rate of the average man is 70 beats per minute.

I've been trying to set plans for some exercise, but running/walking doesn't seem to do too much. Do you guys have any exercising tips for me to lower my resting heart rate (even if it's just by 2? Because two less beats a minute saves ONE MILLION beats per year.)

I've also seen my mile run improve from 16 minutes to 11 minutes and 54 seconds. That's definitely some improvement, but not a whole lot.

    Re: My health history

Really, the number of beats per minute is a measurement of how efficiently your body uses oxygen, which is directly related to how physically fit you are (if your body uses oxygen efficiently, your heart doesn't need to pump as much blood). The only way to lower it is to get in shape: running, toning your arms and abs, and any other forms of balanced physical exercise will do the trick. Running/walking is probably your best bet, but you have to do it consistently and for at least 20 minutes to get results.

Remember, as you exercise, your heart will build cardiac muscle - it will become stronger and will not have to beat as much.

    ~Bynary Fission

P.S I would hope your heart rate exceeds 90 bpm, rofl. For your age (and mine), about 145-180 would be good for cardio (anything harder is an intense workout, and anything lower won't have much of an effect).

EDIT: 11 minutes isn't horrible, given the shape you said you were in. Try and shoot for under 10, then move up from there. The best way to motivate yourself would be to set small goals for yourself and achieve each one.

Running is a very good way to go. I'm on my school's Cross Country team and I've ran 5 days a week for the past few years and I'm in excellent shape. I was especially worried about my blood pressure as well, because my family's history with it is bad and my father's blood pressure is colossal. I get it checked annually and it's perfectly healthy, and I can't think of anything else I do that is too healthy.

I'm totally with you one this one. My relatives have had a history of high blood pressure and one died from a heart attack.

Yeah, my family's history with disease and health has plagued with me with stress for years. Keeping in good shape has really helped me. I'm not in C.C at the moment either, so all what I've done is had a weekly, maybe, 2 mile run with a couple of friends of mine that we do two or three days a week at the local park. I do my best just to prevent being too inactive and stagnant. Doing a little bit of exercise goes a long way.

i'm not sure if i read this correctly, but are you saying that over 90bpm while exercising is a lot? that's definitely not the case. my heartrate has gone over 200bpm plenty of times while i'm doing workouts for XC. 90bpm exercising is nothing to worry about.

Haha, just try not to worry about it too much. I know I do more bad than good to myself when I freak out too much over these kind of things.

well, in addition to exercising, maybe you should change your diet as well?
like, eat smaller portions more frequently in the day, or eat leaner?

You do the mile in eleven minutes? Lol... I do it in almost 5

Anyway, that's not too big of a deal, don't worry about it. I don't see how working out will do anything, though.

Yes. Instead of three big meals go to around five little meals. If you are looking to lose weight decrease you calorie intake. Try to stay away from fatty foods, carbs etc.

See as for me i eat as much calories as I can because i am looking to gain weight. So i eat up to 6 times a day with as much as i can each meal, with of course lifting weights etc.
