A sort of legitimate question. I guess.

So like, the word "Fuck" is censored (i bypassed it omg i roxx ololo), but stuff like the word "******" isnt censored. Now, I am personally not offended by either of these words, but why the mysterious selectivity?

It's like advertising hate in a can, when you do that. Watch, a silly white boy like me can quote Ludacris lyrics and put it on a forum, unwittingly offending maybe a black person and my friend Gus (who doesnt go here, heehee).

"Fuck that, get the fuck, back, Luda make your skull crack, fuck that, put it in your weed, ******, puff that".

Oh my goodness! It took out the F-word, but not teh n-bomb. What's with that?

    Meh, Im just curious.

Excellent thought. Maybe worthy of Critical Thinking.

****** is a word that's less common and that very few people ever say. With the amont of 10 yearolds roaming these forums, I wouldn't be suprised if 1/3 of the members here don't even know what that word means, and are simply afraid to admit it.

The answer is simple. Early in the Forum's existence, when flaming was a serious epidemic, people used words like fuck and gay and other words of the sort A LOT. However, the n-word was not.

That or Synth is a KKK member...but that doesnt seem very likely.

Well, his name IS James Webb.

Sure, it's not as common, but I could be fairly sure that when in a poll, the word "******" would be more offensive than the word "fuck".

I remember, I had joined right around the end of the flaming epidemic. I don't think "******" was ever used, and "fuck" was alot. But that only makes a small difference. I think the wisest decision would be to ban pretty much all offensive words, if I were to ban any at all. Note that last part of the sentance, of course.

The ban is more of a damage control rather than a defense, really. Everybody who's been in any forum for more than a week knows how to bypass the censors. The whole idea behind it is to keep people from going 'Fuck you you fucking piece of fucking shit fucktard!' in the hope that they could keep flaming somewhat civilized, and in the absence of civility, illegible, which is at least better.

I say you can get rid of censors now. If it becomes a problem, then you can recensor. We don't have a problem with swearing anyway. It would be from the occasional cjsknot-type forum member.

realistically anyone who digresses to using fuck to insult someone is probly not a person that deserves to post at all,( in my opinion). after all why shout fuck at somone when you can do it with such style that they are left realing and in deep need of therapy?

on the note of most of the 10 year olds on the forum not knowing what "******" meant how many of you really understand its true origional meaning?

"Fuck" - acrinim: For Unlawfull Carnal Knowlage.

seeing as i know only slight amounts of trivial knowlage i cannot tell you what "for unlawfull carnal knowlage" means. but it was shortened to "Fuck" because when you were centances to commiting that crime (?"Fucking?) instead of writing that whole line above your cell, they would just shorten it.

now what do you suppose "for unlawfull carnal knowlage" represented?

knowing how to have sex in more then one way?

dont laugh but i often wonder how you would be convicted for that. and how come the poor sap that had to write it above your cell, fealt he/she had to shorten it to save time and effort?

Ok that's not where fuck came from, atleast from what my english teacher told me.

Ok I dont care bout grammar much so take a bit breath.

He told us how wen in elgland centuries ago the language was very simple with short words (4 letter words mostly) then wen some other european country came and invaded/stayed there the language they brought over had more long words and was seen as more sophisticated and over a period of time the people that used the simple language(slaves and servants mostly) were seen as almost a lower form of life. These words were many of the swear words we have today including fuck and still hold the same meaning.

So anyways that's the story I know but who knows, there may be more than one origin of fuck but if you believe either of these theories saying it is still really putting yourself down

****** means second class citizen... by calling a black person ****** you are saying they are below you which is why its bad and racist. i dont find ****** offensive because i call all my black friends ******s... all the time. they dont care, they can just call me a jew or kyke either way i could give less of a shit than ever. why should you care if 1 person whos ignorant says that you are below them? doesnt that just make them below you?.. thats how i look at it. as for the whole swearing routine. i think that it should be taken down. people who swear accessivly should just be warned. if they continue then they should be banned from the forums. but its good to swear... and synth if you read this you cant deny(sp?) it either you've sworn on many occasions while having a conversation with me, although for some reason it surprises me when you do. anyways. thats what i think :/

It is good to swear, I like that one. I think swearing is just the easy way out of using more descriptive words, yet sometimes they can convey a message 1000X better then without curse words.
