    $10,000 budget for my car

ok, i know this is my third thread this week but i figure i need to start brainstorming and stuff. i'm going away to college next year and at the end of this year i'm going to be given 10,000$ by my dad to spend on my new car since my van will be lucky to make it to the end of this year and a graduation present etc...

anyways i was wondering and would like some input from people who know a good bit about cars, how should i go about this? spend all 10 grand on a car and not do anything to it, spend 7 grand on the car and 3 grand to make it nice with speakers/subs/rims/whatever, or do the same only split it 5 grand/5 grand. and what are some different cars i should consider getting? it's only about 8 months away so i figure i should think about it ahead of time. suggestions anyone?

Get a good deal on a skyline or supra.

buy a used camry for like 9000

then spend the rest on a sound system

      who really cares about rims?

forgot to include, if i get a scholarship then however much that scholarship is worth gets added to my budget.

something tells me that'd run me up more than 10 grand. lol for the supra/skyline

Don't waste your money on a sound system/rims. Sure, they're nice to have. But if you have 10,000 bucks, get yourself a nice used honda/toyota. Maybe you have a lot of money to throw around, but it's more important to buy a car that is dependable and will last you for as long as you are in school.

yes i agree. hondas and toyotas have great engines and if you maintain them, theyll last a very long time. and plus, maintenance is cheap. forget the rims and sound system. i say buy a car and save the rest.

Get a relatively new VW Jetta 2.0 turbo

use the money left over to change the timing belt and add a boost controller, intake, and exhaust

                yeah

You should spend $1 on a nice hot wheel car and give the other $9,999 to me! XD jk, i think you should get the cheaper car and get the nice speakers and all that.

This and also try to get something with relatively good gas mileage. Like 27+ mpg.

While we're on this topic can somebody tell me how fast stock speakers stretch when played loudly. I'm wondering if I'm going to need a sound system when I get a car. Btw the music I listen to rangers from extreme bass to extremely high pitches so I'm guessing that's even more wear and tear on the speakers.

Also I wouldn't go with an American made car. They're crappy and fall apart. I would say get a Toyota of some sort...just don't get a Honda Civic...the insurance will be REALLY high because they're known to be bought, supped up, then street raced.

                          Hello?! Jetta!

also, the comment above, Jettas come stock with the "monsoon" sound system and for a default system, it knocks pretty hard.

Go after a used Honda. Seriously. Honda, though foreign made, may very easily be the best quality car out there. You could get a used Civic pretty cheap, or Accord, and those get fairly nice gas mileage. If your anti-Honda, go after a Toyota.

So basically Honda or Toyota in my opinion.

it's really good for college bound people, unless its too 'nerdy'
