The way I came to 8 hours:

Emerald hops on the bike and follows Tass as they leave Fractal_Monkey behind. 15 miles in (after 3 hours), Emerald, say, gets a flat tire. So he gets off the bike and walks the rest of the way. Fractal_Monkey finds a bike tire and some tools on his hike and finds the bike, repairs it, and takes off. Tass makes it in 6 hours, the others in 8.

Fractal_Monkey and Emerald- (3 mph x 5 hours) + (5 mph x 3 hours) = 30 miles

It CAN go down below the 8h mark. I currently have 7h40 and it can go down even lower.

Well, this is quite simple of a solution...

Let emerald ride on Tass' back, then let Fractal_Monkey ride the bike.

Tass, going 5 mph, has another on his back...

Shortens the time.

The person with the bike goes the same speed as Tass, they go at the same time...

if one 3 mph guy rides the bike the other 3mph guy walks so its still a 3mph full way
so 10 hours at best

I can see exactly how to want to do this, but I don't know the ways to expedite the process, and would have to brute force it the whole way through, and I'm already lost patience for it. *grin*

Is it 6 hours?

In pure mathematical terms, if you switch between Emerald and Fractal riding the bike instantaneously for the entire duration of the trip, then everyone is going 5mph the entire trip, meaning they arrive in 6 hours.

Of course, if you're looking for something that can actually be done in real life, then that isn't possible. But let me bounce some ideas off. Since Tass will always be going as fast or faster than the other two regardless of who has the bike, and the only thing that matters is the time the slowest person gets there, isn't Tass irrelevant? He can never be the last person to arrive, therefore giving him the bike at any point makes it so that the other two only arrive later, lengthening the overall time.

Assuming that's correct, you can completely eliminate Tass from your solutions, as he'll be walking the entire time anyway.

If one is biking and one is walking, for even the most infintessimal instant, they aren't in the same spot, so you can't "switch" between them freely
