Conceit.
It all comes down to that in the end.
I mean, think about it. In the beginning, everyone was equal. There was no order or level of status. Until some prick with a big head decided that he was above some people and thus, a fight broke out. The winner went to the top, everyone else was neatly stacked below.
That led to slavery. If everyone had believed that they were all equal, then people wouldn't have gone and made other people do their dirty work for them while they sat in the lounge, sipping tea out of a ceramic cup. But then they wouldn't be where they are now, would they? So many people have to sacrifice for these selfish gluts who can’t do their own damn work. Haul your own water for a change.
Slavery eventually led to the idea of a superior race. The Nazis were one example of this. Led by the temptation of being the best, they killed millions of Jews because of the belief that they were the source of everything bad in the world. The idea of being above others applies here too.
Then along came poverty. When people started believing that they were superior, that was a reason to step over everyone else in their quest to be the best. That drained resources, leading to hunger, feuds, and economic crashes. Half the world is probably sleeping on the dirt tonight, fearing being raided and worrying about how to live off of crumbs tomorrow. And this all started with one man who decided he was too good for everyone else.
And maybe there’s more than one reason, but think. What causes resentment among groups? Conceit. What leads people to cruelty and abuse? Conceit. What has ruined the world today? Conceit.
We need to change, and fast. If we keep on living this way, divided into levels with no care for each other, this world will fall apart.
That’s my view, but there’s going to be others. Discuss here.
