I have a friend (who is usually the most intelligent person in my school other than me) who, after I told him how I had been swimming in about 65 degree (Fahrenheit) water, said "That's nothing, I've swam in like (notice the use of the word "like") 21 degree water. (If you haven't caught on, 21 degrees is below freezing.) It just goes to show how little people seem to use their brains.

Hate to burst your bubble of superiority, but 32F is the freezing point of pure water at sea level. 0F is the freezing point of salt water. You can -easily- swim in water that is unfrozen at 21 degrees F. Any northern body of salt water can get that cold without freezing.

OH, also, people who shoot their mouths off about how smart they are, while stating incorrect information make me mad.

Yes, but that really does not apply to my story. Do you actually think (yes, it is a possibility) that he was swimming in salt water? He realized what he had said after I mentioned it, (he jokingly said that he was ice skating after that) so I doubt he was swimming in salt water. I was just trying to find an example to emphasize the points already stated. Whether or not I was being specific enough and/or stupidly embarrassing myself was something I was unaware of.

By the way, I don't capitalize the "w." It is another little pet peeve of mine.

Point is, your retelling of the story was like "haha he said 21F that's impossible, he's so dumb" when in fact it is perfectly possible. Heck, I've done it before. See my post in the "world's greatest riddle" thread with regards to communicating poorly and then acting smug when you're misunderstood.

Having to go through 25 pages of tables just to find the enthalpy of superheated ammonia to then only have to calculate it's specific volume and potential energy.

Thermodynamics makes me mad.
