A proposal by a powerful Bay Area lawmaker could make California the first state to ban the production and sale of foie gras -- a move that would wipe the controversial delicacy from menus throughout this food-savvy state.
State Senate President Pro Tem John Burton, D-San Francisco, is expected to introduce a bill this week that would virtually prohibit foie gras by essentially putting the Western United States' sole producer out of business while denying chefs ready access to the hyper-fattened duck liver.
Burton, who sponsored similar bills on foie gras while in Congress decades ago to no avail, said he is introducing the legislation in California because "I think it's the right thing to do."
"I've eaten foie gras," he added. "It ain't my cup of tea."

Not to worry, "food-savvy" denizens of the Health Reich. In a blender, mix almost-stale tofu with Velveeta, 50-50 and drop in a bullion cube and the oil bag off the tail of a turkey. Blend, chill and serve. Voila! Democrat foie gras. As palatable as the rest of their lifestyle.
What is going on with Democrats these days? At what point did the party metamorphose into the Prohibition Party. From bans on smoking to curbs on free expression, one can be sure that there is a member of the Democratic Party behind it.
Foie gras has become the rallying cry of the animal "rights" fanatics who don't give a damn about animals but who do want to convert, forcefully or otherwise, the population into vegetarians. As is the custom these days they dig up support for their unpopular agenda with Democratic politicians who enjoy nothing more than depriving their constituents of the enjoyable things in life.
