well to speak of the graphics...they had quake III for the dreamcast...that should tell you how old the game is...can you believe they still use the same engine today

game engine has zero to do with the graphics.
Reach: there was this bee. i hate bee\'s...i tryed to kill it, but then it didn\'t die and it started making weird noises so i was like oh (#$% hes gonna sting me. i started running but i triped over some rock and rolled down a hill into the river.

Game engine has to do with polygon rendering algorithms and how well complex figures can be rendered out with minimal frame loss. It has a lot to do with graphics so stop talking out of your ass.
And the Trinity engine is probably still the best engine today.

wow, go learn SOMETHING before you post vxdx.
the game engine is the code that runs the game. you can change the graphics without changing a single line of code. if that doesn't make sense to you, just don't talk about anything involving programming because you don't have a fucking clue.

I don't have a fucking clue? what do you think renders the graphics? The magical fairy code? You fucking moron. The engine determines how events in the game are displayed. It determines how all those textures are displayed and how all the surfaces are rendered and when. THE ENGINE IS WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT WHEN YOU PLAY. I don't have a clue? Yeah, because I haven't mapped at all, which is practically directly interfacing with the engine because you are telling it what to base what it shows the user off of. You have to be the dumbest person to argue that the engine doesn't have to do with graphics. God, read what aperson wrote. he's right, so why did you completely disregard his post? Maybe because you are an idiot.

I, however have a reasonable amount of programing experience and I've worked with OpenGL for awhile so I'd know.
The engine determines how the graphics are scaled, rendered and appeared. Christ, the engine is even what does the particle effects. Though the engine isn't the sole thing that creates the graphics, it is a VERY large portion of it.
you know i never said the engine had anything to do with the graphics (but they do)...many people like to take words and twist them so they can flame...i was just making a statement that they actually use a game engine today that is 2 years old or so
