Re: Are you Wapanese?
There's a line between having a moderate and sensible interest in Japanese culture (in just the same way that someone might have an interest in sports or literature) and having an interest in it but feeling the need to tell everyone about that interest.
I personally think that there are better things to take an interest in than a culture rooted in conformity and oppression of individual thought, but hey, if you dig that, that's cool with me. Just don't run into every conversation blindly extolling its virtues and acting like the new episode of Shippuden is the greatest thing to ever grace the planet.
P.S. Weeaboos need to GTFO my vidchat. I'm at the point where I almost feel like stabbing someone in the eye every time I open up VC.Real Join Date: July 12, 2003.

Re: Are you Wapanese?
I agree with you completely, GuyMonkey.
Also, in Japan there are Japanese people that wish to be living like us. They listen to Green Day and watch South Park while eating a cheeseburger, thinking that's all Americans do all day. Many Wapanese people strongly believe that Japan superior to all countries, and that people living in Japan are living life like it's an anime.FCs: Over 9000Comment

Re: Are you Wapanese?
It does, but in the first page people were spamming excessively, killing the thread and it's interest towards members. Or maybe the title made people think this topic was a joke of some sort.FCs: Over 9000Comment

Re: Are you Wapanese?
It really is a testament to the "Wapanese" stigma that simply using the word in the topic title makes it a topic unworthy of conversation.
To be fair, though, there really are a limited number of points one could make for or against the Wapanese craze, less so for those against. It comes down to the division between those of us who are capable of acting sensibly and reasonably, and those of us who aren't.
One thing that bothers me in particular is the degree to which some females are enchanted by the "anime lifestyle," because of the harsh reality that the fairer sex is often treated sub-standardly in the Japanese culture. These girls are absolutely convinced that going to Japan means eternal happiness, when it could very well turn out to be the complete opposite. Japan is only a fun place to visit for most Westerners because they're treated better specifically because of where they're from. Try living there for awhile. You'll grow tired of it.
Also, I'm not pulling facts out of my ass or anything. I had a few teachers in high school who lived in Japan for extended periods of time, and a couple of friends who've made teaching excursions to the Land of the Rising Sun.Real Join Date: July 12, 2003.
