Opinion on a Quote.

Dr. Seuss(50 points to whoever know's his real name, shouldn't be too hard) once said~"Adult's are but obsolete children, and to hell with them all!"


In your opinion, (or comment), what does this mean, and why did he say it.


Whenever I talk with a friend or a sibling, I feel like I am, in retrospect, a teenager. But whenever I hear someone refer to themselves as 'still young' I snap into a GrandFather guise.

Does anybody else over the age of twenty ever have this feeling? Answer in a Postscript after the ^post.

I believe that children are our future, UNLESS WE STOP THEM NOW! Which is why the world must not become like that one story where aliens killed like 95% of all the adults and left the children to rule the world, killing off people over the age of 18. It was a short story I read in high school, and I really don't remember the specifics.

FUN FACT: Dr. Suess made political cartoons in WW2 that portrayed all japanese americans as SPIES! W00t for TREASON!

I think there is a child in us all, but 'adults' try their best to suppress that - which is something he clearly never did.

I personally think that we are young our whole lives. If somebody tell's you that you are being immature, to hell with them. They are most likely either uptight Catholic Parents(No offense to anyone else) or the people on this forum who whip people with razor-sharp tongues.

Dr. Seuss was known as 'The Youngest Old Man' in the 50's, although many say that he portrayed two personalities, a young boy, and his father.

Though people may change their spectrum of thought through hard situations, as foilmann said, there is always a child deep within us that smiles when we get presents, that laughs when we hear jokes, that fumes when we are angry.

My Grandfather used to say that he'd never aged, (In Arabic) and thus was marked on his gravestone.

What Seuss is getting at is that children, in a sense, are greater than adults in that they possess an infinite amount of potential. Their conscience hasn't been tainted with the wrongs of society, and their imagination allows them to still believe that anything is possible. Seuss was part of a very small group of people who can see the irony in the fact that all of the world's problems were/are caused by the very same people who are supposed to be more intelligent, mature, and able to keep society functional.

Children are simply not capable of the evils that adults commit, and I think that's why Seuss took such joy in writing children's stories.

Reading it plainly it says:

Adults used to be children, but now they're not. And since they're not to hell with them.

Adults used to have innocence as children, but as they aged the innocence died. I don't want to be a part of that.

Also, keep in mind that Seuss couldnt stand being around kids IIRC.
