Used to have like 30+ a day but that's when you switch email accounts. I've been lucky with my recent one, had it for a few months and rarely get any spam.

I don't understand why pop-ups and spam are so common...everybody thinks they're annoying, and especially with the ads against them and public opinion of them being so low, they can't possibly work...can they?

well that depends on what your using for your mail.. some providers also have spam blockers, try looking into your provider for something along those lines.
