It helps you because you know where every other piece should go. If you have a corner with red white and blue on it, then it goes in the spot between the red, white, and blue center pieces.

See, that's like speaking a foreign language. I need visuals...

Just practice the finger movements like for an up turn, flick your index finger. Just keep practicing too :]

The layer by layer method, I assume at least, is how most people learn to solve their first Rubik's Cube. It was how I learned, and is a basic, easy to follow sequence.

I'm trying to get a handle on the Fredrich method of solving a Rubik's Cube. This means that while you're solving the first side, after you have to cross, you get the corners in place as well as the frist 2 layers. All in all, it's the best method I've seen that doesn't take too much memorization. Try that one out for speedsolving.

To Mr. Rubix, if you come back into this thread, that's my question to you. What method do you use when speedsoving and isn't there a whole different set of algorithms when solving blindfolded? If you see this, I'd like to know.

When the game isn't fun for you anymore, take a break. It's not a job, nobody here is professional and getting paid to play and force themselves to constantly improve... it's a game.

That's the method my friend tried to teach me. No luck. Lol.

Yeah I used Fridrich -- at my prime I also multislotted (tackling two F2L slots at once) but only simple cases. For the last layer I performed OLL and PLL. For BLD cubing, I use my own method.
