on e-bay sure. and all those card are 1x/2x/4x/8x compliant so there is no difference in that. I said 9700 wasn't worth the money but if you could find one for about 200 like yours, the 9700 PRO is worth it. 9600xt and 9800xt will perform better at 4x than a lower quality card that was made for 4x. Besides that, the 4x/8x difference is currently negligible.

well that was my point exactly...true the 9600 and 9800 xt's will work better on 4x than other lower end cards, but the performance drop for those cards is significant between 8x and 4x, hence i said it isnt worth paying $250 for a 9600xt when you would get a minute deifference in performance form a 9800 pro for $150...plus i dont think you can get a 9700 or 9800 pro anywhere besides ebay...they dont carry them in most stores anymoreOriginally posted by VxDxon e-bay sure. and all those card are 1x/2x/4x/8x compliant so there is no difference in that. Wow, thanks for the comments all...well, here's what I want to know, since I'm strung along on a shoestring budget and all...is the 9600 XT really worth the extra $80 in relation to the cheaper 9600 SE?Comment

ok, i would say yes it is definately worth it...
this link compares the 9600se to the fx5600xt...a fairly low level card

this compares the 9600xt to the fx5700 ultra...i know its in german but so what look at the graphs...you can see here the fx5600 at the very bottom and you can imagine the 9600se even below that
obviously the 9600xt had a distinct advantage over the se cardOriginally posted by VxDxStick it in her butt and pee.Comment

Well if it weren't for the fact that everybody's telling me to go with ATI, I'd think the GeForce 5600XT is actually better than the 9600 SE, or at least that's what all the graphs show...how much is the 5600 XT, anyway?Comment

Really...well, should I just go with that then? It seems to be better than the 9600XT, and all of the graphs show better performance anyways...plus, Nvidia wouldn't have gotten to be as big as it was if it's cards sucked. But, then again, HP is like the top manufacturer, so...Comment

people only buy nividias becuase they think core clock is everything...which it certainly is not...the 5600xt is not nearly as powerful as the 9600xt...go with that if you can spend $25 moreOriginally posted by VxDxStick it in her butt and pee.Comment

It's just that I'm on a tight as hell budget till I can find a fuggin' job, so I don't want to spend any more than I have to...but I figure if it's worth it, I'll have to upgrade again anyway...Thanks for all your help, btw.Comment

get agp huh? why didn't anyone else think of that? oh maybe because you are a complete idiot and need to not post ever.
nVidia doesn't make crap, but for a while they were behind ATi in performance (back in the FX5200-5800 days). Now the top of the line ATi (R9800XT) and the top of the line nVidia (FX5950) are pretty much on the same level performance wise. nVidia pretty much is a shady company that makes a good product.Comment

haha AGP....well i think the Fx5800 can compete with the 960xt if you want to compare the those prices and you want to go with a nvidia card...which, btw, there is nothing wrong withOriginally posted by VxDxStick it in her butt and pee.Comment
