    What is the American Dream?

    So,
I'm writing this stupid essay for english class about The Great Gatsby. But disregard that for now because I have not connected the book to the essay yet. Right now I just need to say what I think the American dream is, and turn that **** into a paragraph.
I keep typing things and then deleting because I can't come up with a solid idea. So help.

    What is the American Dream?

The American Dream is to go to college, get married, have kids, and live a successful life, moreso than the average citizen. Live wealthy. There's your ideas. :]

Basically my original idea, with a bunch of bull**** words and letters to make it a paragraph.
But I think I need to go deeper.
Going deep is not my style.

American Dream = Dusty Rhodes, a retired wrestler.

            It's true.

this kid knows what hes talking about, but seriously it isnt that hard, we did a paragraph on this topic in class and we had about 5 minutes to do it, what nyo said is basically what the whole class wrote and the teacher even explained that those things are the basics of the so called "american dream". so just type your paper and be done with it.

As far as The Great Gatsby is concerned, the American dream is to become very wealthy by any means possible, hang out with the rich class, and to be surrounded by those same types of people. Gatsby has the wealth, but not the girl of his dreams.

Did a similar assignment last year, and yeah, essentially material possessions, social status, wealth.

Born, live a life of morality, do what is "right' and don't question that which is, don't bite the hand that feeds.

Education, get that, work your way through the masses by educating yourself as best as possible for education correlates to wealth in many cases, and the more you have, the better off your life will be.

Establish a social network and be..charming, in a sense? Regardless of how pretentious that may be, or facetious even.

Essentially a very Darwin like environment, where you work for only those closest to you. Traditionalism in a sense, where you strive for a better life, for yourself and those close to you and everyone else ideally does the same.

Achieve a high status, decrease work and then eventually just...retire. Ideally at a young age..take care of kids, have a pet or two, garage, and just live out the rest of your life happily.

Fortunately, life isn't exactly like this, but I suppose that's an idea of what I feel is the "dream," in some regard.

                          Hope it helps,
                          Luci.
