Re: Logic Puzzles
Wait, I really don't understand.
For a 30% success rate, does that mean 30% of the time everyone survives, or thirty percent of the people survive every time?
Because if it was the latter, then everyone just pick the first 50 boxes.
(Unfortunately, now I'm almost sure it's the former)

well
They don't need to open the fifty boxes at once, do theyOriginally posted by Tokzicis the repetition of the last line a metaphorical comparison of the dependance of society on technology today versus the more natural lifestyle of the late nineteenth century

Re: Logic Puzzles
so they can't have one person go in and open box one then a second prisoner immediately after go in and open box two and continue down the line until prisoner 1 uses all 50 tries?Originally posted by SynthlightWouldn't it be cool if I really was the CEO of ScrewingSynth "Corperation"? Hot

Re: Logic Puzzles
They can't.
Edit: and I found some more ways to do this.
1. Knock out, but do not kill the warden.
2. Strangle the warden and threaten to kill her unless she tells you which ID is in which box.
Edit2: Proof that this is impossible: Breathing is doing something, so therefore, they can't breath afterwards, so they all have to die.Last edited by Doug31; 05-6-2007, 10:18 PM.

Re: Logic Puzzles
can they kill themselves for the good of the rest?
i.e. even if they find their id, not come back to the roomOriginally posted by Tokzicis the repetition of the last line a metaphorical comparison of the dependance of society on technology today versus the more natural lifestyle of the late nineteenth century

Re: Logic Puzzles
Ok then, they amount of space taken up by the ink in making the numbers of the IDs would be slightly different, so they just have to weigh them all very accurately to tell which number is in which one without opening them. Or they can just use an x-ray or something to see what's in the boxes without opening them.
Edit: Or they can get clues from how someone rearranged them before, like how recently someone had touched each box if they did them in order. Or they could all change their IDs to the same ID beforehand, then just all open the same 50 boxes. Or they could use google. Or they could get something to rescue them before going in. Or they could look through the boxes without opening them because boxes have holes in them. Or they could use some tiny animal to look in the boxes for them. Or they could each find their own number, not their own ID, since that's what it says, so they'd really just have to do something like write their number on a box and then leave, or wait until the clock or their watch said their number and then leave. Or they could do something to the boxes in the room before the whole thing started, like put numbers on them equal to what ID was in each of them. Or they could pay kit- 99999 credits to find out what the answer is. Or they could stack all the boxes on top of each other and go onto the roof. Or they could close the boxes after opening them, so it didn't count as a box opened. Or they could open more than 50 boxes, as long as only 50 of them were guess, and the rest were logically thought up, or even just an organized pattern. Or they could make a mind-reading machine. Or they could all put their IDs into the room before it started, then just pick up the one from that stack that matched the one they got in the box they opened. Or they could get really highly annoyed by kit- for making an impossible question.Last edited by Doug31; 05-7-2007, 12:11 AM.
