Re: Don't pump gas on May 15th ....

Goverment can't give gas 10 cents per galleon when it costs more then that to just tap the oil, much less refine it. I think you may be confusing with another another measurement unit considering the rest of the world uses the metric system and charge for gas by the litre.

Obviosuly other countries (China being the land of oppurtunity now) are rapidly buying more oil everyda; however, unlike America. Other countires use oil primarily for energy (America obviosuly for transportation.) The problem is, in a decade or two, China will probably need just as much oil as America. When that happens our prices will really soar. As stated in an earlier post; the only solution is to find an alternative sources.

Someone stated earlier that alternative sources have been created but shut down by the oil companies. To date, there has been absolutely NO alternative resources that can be used in the market as a substitute for gas. As of today, Ethanol is the most promising alternative source of energy. Pure Ethanol is made entirely out of corn, this abolishes the need oil to be refined into gas. Unfortunately, that technology is still out of our reach; the best ethanol we can produce today on a mass market scale will have at least 25% gasoline. In addition to that, Ethanol gets less miles to the galleon than gasoline. This "impure" type of ethanol is what gasoline companies try to prevent. This is a mix of contracts and codes which makes it much more expensive to put this kind of ethanol at your local gas station. Even so, ethanol may eventually become a huge problem, can we produce and gather enough corn to run our entire country? I would agree that the oil companies aren't happy about alternative sources for fuel; however, we have found any other efficent sources.

Eventually, our prices we match those of Europe's (http://www.caranddriver.com/dailyaut...n-england.html) Note: The seven dollars a gallon is a rough estimation based on the conversion from litre to gallon. I would like to emphasize that this not because of the "big bad oil companies" or whatever nonesense so many of you believe in. It is simply the market price that can be accredited to S&D.

Also about hybrids. Currently there are only 2 super fuel efficent hybrids on the market. That is the Toyota Prius (first one) and the Honda Accord. There are other cars called hybrids (because they do incorporate gas+electric power.) But they are not even close to being considered SULEV (Super Ultra Low Emissions vechile.) These cars were only introduced three years ago, and only this year did they come out with the option to get the "full package"
deal. Yes those cars are nice, but they are more expesnive then most of Toyota's and Honda's other models. I don't know about you, but I can't just decide to buy a new car when. suddenly, a new model comes out. In reality, driving hybrids will only cause demand to go down (because we don't need as much) which will still result in prices to go up (so it doesn't solve the problem of "gas prices") Nonetheless, it would give us more time to find alternative sources.

Any energy economist (other than the one's working for oil companies.) will tell you that we need to find a new source of fuel and hopefully energy as well.

Statement of the year material right here folks. LMAO

Gas is reaching $3.50 in northern PA, near NY though so I imagine it will go higher before summer hits. Driving around sucks anymore with the high price.

Gas around here has jumped big time. Last night on my way home I noticed it was $3.16 and this morning on my way to school it jumped to $3.52 and by the time school was over it was up to $3.65 at the same station.

As for alternative fuels, ethanol is relatively uneconomical. I believe that Brazil or some country uses almost only ethanol, yet the difference is that they get their ethanol from sugar cane, NOT CORN. Even if we did switch over to ethanol, it would be almost completely insane to try and grow that much corn, not to mention that weather would have a much bigger effect on the market than it does now. We would also have to eat less corn considering it would be used to make fuel, and we would have to do without as much high fructose corn syrup, also made from corn.
Hydrogen powered cars would be an excellent alternative, considering they get fairly good mileage and hydrogen is a renewable resource. Add to that the fact that hydrogen fuel cells have been refined to a point where they used to take up the whole back of a full size van, but can now be fit into a space the size of a car chassis (http://www.autobloggreen.com/2007/02...r-on-youtube/). You can also use a hydrogen powered engine which you could just switch with the current engine in your car. However the prices for hydrogen would be much more than gasoline is now until the whole country was switched over and until we had established companies providing hydrogen in the first place. Also, filling a hydrogen tank, and in essence just getting large amounts of hydrogen is currently not as easy as it seems, although it is feasible and would just require some elbow grease from our governments to get the whole project going.

Soul, hydrogen fuel has been proposed; but there is one major flaw with it.

If I accidently bump you in the rear, just a tiny bit...

                  BOOM!

However.. if you would want a detailed list of additional drawbacks that prove that hydrogen power is not the way of the future read this.

I have an idea. Use wave energy. Just give it a splash and the waves will be able to start your carwith their energy. Then the movement of your car will continue to power the car as you travel. I read about that in Discovery magazine. They just need to find a way to capture the wave's energy and then they will be able to do that.

Considering that gas here in the mountains of NC is hitting $2.95 a gallon, I figured, ah what the heck, right?

                      NO GAS...On May 15th 2007

Don't pump gas on may 15th!

In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in
protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all internet users are not to go to a gas station in
protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet
network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

If users do not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00

(that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies pockets for just one day!

So please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.

Feel free to post this and forward this around, likely if this hits enough sites and forums, it could actually make a difference.

                      Have fun folks!
hehehe....my last day of school was on May 15th...so you know i didn't do anything but celebrate
