Josh Hanc0ck, a key member of the bullpen that helped the St. Louis Cardinals win the World Series last season, was killed in a car crash early Sunday. Tonight's game against the Cubs has been postponed.
Hanc0ck has pitched for four major league clubs. He went 3-3 in 62 regular-season appearances for the Cardinals last season and pitched in three postseason games. He was 0-1 with a 3.55 ERA in eight games this season.
Hanc0ck joined the Cardinals before the 2006 season. He has pitched for Boston, Philadelphia and Cincinnati.
--
Hanc0ck is the second St. Louis Cardinals player in five years to die in a Cardinal's uniform. The other player is Darryl Kile. Kile died at the age of 33 of coronary disease in Chicago, where he and the Cardinals were staying for a weekend series against the rival Chicago Cubs.
Kile was the first active major league player to die during the regular season since the New York Yankees' Thurman Munson died in an aviation accident in 1979. The cause of Kile's death was attributed to a 90% blockage in two coronary arteries.
EDIT: Had to fix John's last name because of the filter this website has.
