Help me buy a laptop FFR

I'm looking at buying a laptop. I've never owned a laptop before so i'm not sure what specs you need to have ffr and sm run smonthly.

-budget is ~1,000$
-ffr+sm should run pretty well
-17" monitor would be cool


That is basically it. So FFR, help me find a laptop.

Buy a Thinkpad. I SM and FFR on my friends, its not bad and they aren't too expensive.

Parents took away the computer, hence why i'm going to buy a laptop.

Buy a Thinkpad. I SM and FFR on my friends, its not bad and they aren't too expensive.

Yea buy a Thinkpad, and make sure it has 2gb of RAM and a dual core processor. It doesn't really need a huge hard drive.

No problem. I still prefer my Compaq though, I think it's this one: http://www.dragonslanding.com/mambo/images/laptop.JPG, just with some additional personal add ons. Over $1,000 dollars though, so just go with the ThinkPad if you don't want to wait for more money.

Make sure it has a dual core processor, and try your hardest to get 2gb of ram.
