Yeah I definatly don't like the aspect of encouraging teenagers to have sex young and if they know what the vaccine does i imagine it would give them the mindset that no std's can harm them and they are invincible and proberly encorage them to have sex without a condom.

Teenagers these days are not smart and i imagine if you told them about it the first things in their head would be oh cool i can have sex without a condom now awesome etc.

If you just refer to it as a vaccine for a disease then there wouldn't be that much of a problem.

I'm for the vaccine and all aslong as there are no hidden long term effects which they definatly need to study but I can't say i like the moral lesson it is giving.

I still don't see how a vaccine will encourage sexual activity at a young age when I first "learned" about sex in school in 5th grade. Then in 7th grade health, the entire course was focused on STD's and drugs. A vaccine won't make kids have sex... they will do it on their own.

No, the vaccine prevents an STI being transmitted during sex. So now that these girls have this vaccine, it's one less risk to not having sex whever they want(i.e. earlier age).

There's a difference. Most kids could give a flying fsck about a tetanus shot. A shot for their bodies that supposed to protect them from an STI is more interesting.

It's not HIV, it's HPV, and HPV is genital warts, one of the examples you used.

HIV leads to AIDS. If they had a vaccine for that, they would be issuing it to everyone of every age as soon as possible. People are terrified of AIDS.

Just tell the kid that it's a vaccine for a type of cancer :/ you can tell the truth without letting them know that it has anything to do with having sex. "Fear of it encouraging them" shouldn't even be a factor in this case.

Not saying I agree with the mandatory vaccine, but I thought this should be mentioned.

It would be stupid to say taht any of the arguments of what mihgt happen is wrong. Early exploration CAn and most likely WILL happen to a select few, but as stated, "its not like kids will go around stepping on rusty nails." (Sexual connotation? maybe). But besides that, I think it's kind of humorous that a group of old white males (no offense to old poeople, darker people or females/other) are the ones making it mandatory for a female to get a vaccination in order to atend public schools. It isn't mandatory to get unless they plan to attend a public school, much like the Hepatidus (sp?) shots. It was a pretty sly move though, making it mandatory for public school entrance. Slowly chipping away at our freedom, so minutely each time that we accept it, and one day years from now, we will look back at all the control we had on our own lives. Anyways, I think the vaccination is a good idea. Who in their right mind would turn it down? It's near 100% effective, and is perfectly safe as far as anybody is concerned. My gf brought up the argument that stupid little middle school boys will make fun of the poor girls for having to get a shot, and chances are that will happen. But the funny thing is, 60 years from now, 98% of all those boys that made fun of those girls will have prostate cancer, so its just funny. But other than a few minor flaws in the deliverance of the vacine, I think its a great idea and I'm glad it was created (even though on accident).

Seriously. Talking about sex with any adult makes me not want to have sex. And I am 22.

One hurts and the other is highly encoraged enough by other students and thought of it as you gotta do it to be cool.
