Maybe my explanation didn't make sense the first time around. But only strong atheism is an active belief that there is no god.
Weak atheism: Not believing in a god.
Strong atheism: Believing in no god.
They are different in a very important--though subtle--way. Also, agnosticism isn't just that you don't know if there's a god. It's also often that you can't know.
Because just allowing everyone to believe what they believe just makes no sense for a few reasons:
-Many of these beliefs are mutually exclusive with one another
-Some feel it's important to know certain things about the world and the universe
-Some of these beliefs deny fact
-Some of these beliefs damn other people to hell...and stuff like that
Sure, if you live your everyday life, you've got to keep things like that to yourself. But it makes no sense--in principal--that everyone should just believe what they believe.
