    Buying a New laptop.

Hey, I have $3500-$4000 in my bank, and I decided its time to get a new laptop.

I cannot get a desktop, as I need this laptop for school, and I dont have enough room in my house for 3rd desktop. Also most laptops these days, cost around the same as a desktop does.

I am also ignoring all of the laptops with "(shared) Intel graphics", as those ****ing suck.

Also, I will be purchasing Windows XP Home, as I cannot stand Vista.

Here are my choices. I want the most and best for my money.

(So in other words which is the best deal?)

    Best Buy:
    1) HP Pavilion Laptop $799
Specs: 1GB Memory, 80GB HDD, Dual Layer DVD Burner, NVIDIA Geforce Graphics, AMD Turion 64, 14 Inch Widescreen

    2) HP Pavilion Laptop $999
Specs: 1GB memory, 120GB HDD, Dual Layer DVD Burner, NVIDIA Geforce Graphics, AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual Core, Built in Webcam, 15.4 inch Widescreen

    3) HP Pavilion Laptop $999
Specs: 1GB Memory, 100GB HDD, Dual Core DVD Burner, NVIDIA Geforce Graphics, AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual Core, Built in Webcam, 17 inch Widescreen

    4) Toshiba Laptop $699
Specs: 1GB Memory, 80 GB HDD, Dual layer DVD Burner, 128 MB ATI Radeon Xpress Graphics, Intel Celeron M, 15.4 inch Widescreen

    Future Shop:

    1) Toshiba laptop $1500 (After Rebates, yet it doesnt mention rebating anywhere :S )
Specs: 2GB Memory, 200GB 5400 RPM HDD, Dual Layer Super Multi Burner, 128 MB NVIDIA Geforce Go 7600 Graphics, 15.4 inch screen

    MDG:
    1) AptonBook XL $1799 (Free XBOX360 with "+models)
Specs: 2GB DDR Memory, 160GB HDD, Highspeed DVD Rewriter ,NVIDIA Go 7600 256 MB DDR Graphics, Dual Core Intel Processor, 15.4 inch Widescreen, Free Corel Word Perfect X3, Bonus 1 touch application keys, Free Microsoft Software Bundle, 4 in 1 Multimedia Card Reader, Free Mic and Webcam, FingerPrint reader, S Video/TV/VGA out.

    2) AptonBook L $1499
Specs: Same as everything in the AptonBook XL, but has 1GB memory, and 120 GB HDD.

    Whats the best deal here?
Also, what does MDG mean by "+models"?

    Thanks

    Re: Buying a New laptop.

    + Models are premeium models.
Add $549 to any regular priced models to get all the benefits of MDG's 2007 + models.
How good do you want? What will you be doing? The best is the most expensive AptonBook XL. If you aren't playing graphic intesive games then I would pick the Tochiba thats 1500, followed by AptonBook L.

The Hp's are fine for web browsing/ ffr / email etc. The above are meant for more intense applications like photoshop and CAD and games.

      Re: Buying a New laptop.

Well its for "school" so I will have to do some graphical presentations.
But YES, ofcourse its going to be used for gaming. I wanna play alot of the top graphical games, out today on the laptop.

The laptop Im using now, has a 32 MB videocard, and it can play San andreas and HL2 and such.

      So yea, Mostly gaming.

So, I want the laptop with the best graphical ability for the lowest price.

I would go with the AptonBook L and upgrade the memory on it to 2 GB Though it isn't necessary. 1GB more should be like $125.

Hmm, The XL does have 160GB HDD and 1GB extra ram. So it is worth the extra $300 maybe...

Uhh the Ram and Videocard and Processor all kick ass in the XL

I honestly don't think you should get a new laptop yet.
Intel has recently made a factory in China where they are making a new processor with pieces of a new type of metal in them that are about a nanometer big.(or so I've heard) so they will be a lot faster.
                If you care about speed.

That will be when they have the new processors probably, they don't overheat as fast and they stay a lot cooler because of the new metal.

Man I don't know, but anything HP I've ever owned has turned to a big heaping pile of crap. Printers, laptops, desktops... you name it. Now that's only one person's experience, and I don't know maybe it was a fluke, but in my opinion, forever and ever ---> HP=STEAMINGPILE.

They will not get one more cent from me.

I do love Best Buy's extended warranty though. Worth every dollar.

Anything with an AMD is crap. Anything with a Celeron is crap. That should narrow down your choices.

AMD is trying to drop their prices down to Intel's and are starting to go out of business.
Their stock dropped a lot in like one day after that.

Definitely go with Toshiba, Toshiba is the best by far, I have heard from many people that HPs fall apart and don't last near as long.
Toshibas are built sturdy and last a solid four years, usually.
IBMs(like the one you have) are also decent, but they seem to be more for business than anything else.

For me, I'd probably go for the one you have in Future shop, or just go to www.toshibadirect.com and customize your own. They always seem to be having a sale there.
