I don't have iTunes, because it doesn't work on Linux... and it really bugs me because I really wanted to get stuff onto my iPod... then I found gtkpod and I was happy.
Linux users (if any) who are frustrated about not being able to put things on their iPod who are viewing this thread: GTKPOD!

Well I use fairstars audio converter, but my dad bought that and I just took it from him. Don't know about any good free ones.

That's why you don't buy an ipod but a proper mp3 player which functions as a USB mass storage device and allows you to drag and drop your music files in your favourite file manager.
