I've never heard of GPAs that high before; I guess that's a 3.9 something on the 4.0 scale?

I guess he means % average...which is retardedly high. I guess anyone can get high grades if they study enough. It's not that hard. My % average was only about 93.

The difference being in university your GPA is nearly all test scores (Midterm+Exam is usually weighted at atleast 75% of your mark). Hence SAT scores predict college grades because it's sort of a measure of how well you sit tests.

Anyone can learn to write good tests though. I was sort of mediocre in grade 9/ grade 10, but got my act together for the SAT and got the highest provincial score on the grade 12 chemistry exam (99%). Anyone can do it, really, assuming your IQ isn't far below normal XD

Well I am talking percentage. Our class valedictorian has a GPA of 104.3, which is only possible due to her numerous amount of Advanced Placement (AP) classes she took all 4 years, which always add a bonus 8 points to your GPA at the end of each semester.

High school really is about memorizing, but over the course of memorizing a majority of the information sticks with you long enough for you to know it and understand it. That's how we learn: repetition and being drilled day by day the same routines of notes, assignments, quizzes, tests.

My SAT score was really a surprise, since I didn't actually "prepare" myself or anything for it, i just woke up, went in, took it, finished it, ate lunch. I guess i have good test taking skills, which i've always had all my life.

I got a 1300 without taking a single prep class or opening a prep book.

If I actually took a course, I could have probably scored 1400+ on it... talking about the 1600 scale, of course, because colleges don't look at the essay scores yet

Got a 1410 without any classes. There's something called a "regression to the mean" where if you score well on your first try (1300) you'll do worse on your following tries, not better. It's weird how it works but it's true.

SAT: 2090/2400
Old score: 1450/1600
ACT: 31/36
SAT II Math 1: 740/800
SAT II Chemistry: 770/800

I imagine I could have gotten between 2150-2200 had I studied for writing section and judging by my math SAT II scores, I could have done better than a 700. It's over now though, I've applied to all my schools already.

In the Midwest, the ACT is the standard; the SAT is barely even mentioned. 32/36 first time, 34/36 second time.

800 sat2 writing, 800 sat2 math2, 770 sat2 chem (I got a nosebleed in the middle of the exam, kinda messed me up).

640 on Reading
510 on math
700 on Writing(12/12 on the essay)

1850. I still have to take it 2 more times, then the ACT. If I can just get math over 650 I'll be happy.

1960/2400....And I have a 3.4ish GPA, which is not bad at all considering my lifestyle. xP Besides, I go to a prep school, so classes are harder I guess. I'm in too many honors and AP classes for my mental health.

Good god, Reach. My first and only attempt was a 2150 or something. It's funny how at the last 400 points the difference between 2000 and 2400 become more pronounced.

Anyone understand the grading system? I know the whole "you get a point for any answer correct" system, but how do they configure a score?

And for my essay, the prompt was something about how opinions of someone can affect what they pursue in life or something...and if people are more successful if they ignore everyone else's opinion on their lifestyle. I obviously wrote something good to get an 11, even though i BS'd it for sure.

A 400 point difference is always huge. However, how much you prepare and what your school teaches can have a huge impact on your grade, the difference between a 2100 and a 2200 may not be significant at all. Someone who goes to a private school which teaches kids math that is going to be on the SAT alongside their regular curriculum will surely do better than a student in an underfunded public school.

Also, someone who studies huge amounts for the SAT will do much better than someone who doesn't study at all.

However, 2290 IS still a ridiculous score.

I believe scores are roughly correlated to certain percentiles.

1450/1600 is classically 98th percentile, 1480 is 99th and above is, well, above. flamingspinach got 2400 on his SAT, just for the record.
