You are the only close-minded person in this entire thread. You fail to see what made Steve special, regardless of whether or not he was famous. The world is grieving for him; does that not make him special? I don't care if you think he was equivalent to a random zookeeper, he was far more than that. You should want to pay respect even if you didn't know who he was. Someone died today. A loss is a loss, and should be dealt with accordingly.

There have always been animal personalities on television like him. He was just the most recent and therefore most relevent (although, honestly, would we be talking about him on this forum had he not died? I don't think so). To say that he inspired others, though, is just retarded.

So what? Does a person have to be constantly in the news for him to be special enough to warrant an outpouring of grief and tribute like this?

There are plenty of great people out there that if they died right now we'd be having this same discussion.

Yeah, it's just that I never really saw what was so great about him. Like I said before, it sucks that he died, but people die everyday. It's not a very big deal as far as I see it.

I actually agree to a degree, as far as what I've seen him post.

It was just the way that he did things. He was able to first, bring attention to himself (wrestling crocodiles, etc) and then divert that attention to the issues that he wanted addressed (illegal poaching, for instance). He did it all with an enthusiasm that's hard to match. He's one of the few people who actually make learning fun, regardless of how cliche that sounds.

Everyone loved him. He was a global superstar and he believed 100% in what he did, and that's why people care so much about his death.

seriously that last reply was so stupid that it warranted a quote change like that more than any other reply i've ever seen

You know, Sertman hit the nail on the head when he suggested suicide. Take him up on it, he even made a nice list on the ways you could do it.

Can I just get out of this hate to bring up the poitn of this thread again? This man was a good man who knew what he wanted done and did it regardless of his own saftey. He stuck out for animals in a very well... interesting way. I guess what I'm trying to say is that this guy was one of my hero's and to see him being disrespected on the day of his death makes me want to know how the human heart can be so cold and crule to someone who wanted nothing more than to spread a message of protecting animals. Oh and by the way neddorn I'm pretty sure that your teacher should have hit you across the head with a lacrosse stick. Who knows mabey we all could have been suffered this crap you typd in that makes no sense to people with brains. And yes I know I left the "Out of hate thing" but all I can say to that is whatever.
                              And the pea mocks me.

That is my argument. However, there are much greater people that will never be known, and they die all the time. So, the one guy who even half warrants such a title that happens to be credited for such a life, is and always will be, the guy that sold out, and spent his life on television. Now, you may concider Animal Planet to be a good channel or whatever for children and such. Well, it is. However. What it comes down to be, is the channel that you flip to when nothing else is on, which just keeps you on your ass watching tv rather than getting up and going outside, Thus, Steve Irwin contributed to the obesity in the world. Thanks Mate!
You keep trying to find fault where there should be none. He didn't have any kind of malicious intent when he became famous. He was only doing what he loved to do, and it happened to be televised, as well. The world is full of sell-outs, but Steve isn't one of them.
