...Til the clerk says..."Do you have ID?"



wtf. Since when do I need ID (i'm guessing to be 18) to buy a harmless lighter?

I asked why and he said "Because, you may be using it to smoke and if you aren't of age to smoke we don't allow you to purchase anything that will aid you in that process."


Wtf.


So I left, went to Wal greens, bought a pack of 5 for 1.49. No hassle.

Edit: Btw, i'm 17, turn 18 in may.

I work at Rite-Aid and we have to either card you or ask your birthdate if you look over the age of 27 if you want to buy cigarettes, cigars, cigarette papers, and other smoking paraphanelia. Yes, a lighter is under that category.

What if I'm only using the lighter for personal purposes, such as maybe a project for school that wouldn't work with matches or something...and a candle lighter is out of the question because if I had one i wouldn't be there in the first place. They really shouldn't automatically assume i'm going to be using it to smoke, even if that is the case 90% of the time.

I work in a craft store. We card / turn away kids who try to buy plastic baggies and spraypaint.

In Canada, you need to be 16 to buy matches, but no particular age for for lighters.

On a side note, in my province you have to be 18 to WORK at a liquor store and 19 to BUY liquor. :\

I bought a lighter a while ago...I wasn't carded because my friend was working the register. 8) My mom ****ing took it away once she realized I was burning a ton of ****. Time to go back to CVS. Friends working at drugstore = benefit.
