What kind of lame maneuver is this by Microsoft?
If anyone has their Windows Updates set to automatic and didn't even see what they installed, you better see if you can uninstall it.
Basically: "We're on the hunt for people who installed their friend's copy of XP and we'll probably make it so both of you can't use it until you pay for a real version suckers."
I have a totally legitimate copy and I still would never install this crap. It's like getting Service Pack 2 times a thousand in terms of Microsoft checking up on you and limiting what you can do.

The Windows Genuine Advantage Notification notifies you if your copy of Windows is not genuine. If your system is found to be non-genuine, the tool will help you obtain a licensed copy of Windows.
