Starting sometime this month, all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketers. Yep, that's right... ALL OF THEM. I just heard this on the radio today. Apparently, the government is taking an "opt out, or you're in" approach. Thankfully, there is a way out of this: the Do Not Call Registry.

Registration for this is free. You have two options:

1. Call 1-888-382-1222 from your cell phone. From what I understand, this automatically puts your cell number on the registry. Remember, it'll only work on the phone you call from.

2. Go to http://www.donotcall.gov/. This is the option I chose. Click "Register a Phone Number". Put in your cell number and a valid e-mail address, sumbit, and go to your e-mail to click the registration link.

If you are certain you registered, within 31 days, you will be free from telemarketers for 5 years. If a telemarketer still calls you, you can go back the the URL above to file a complaint as well. Make sure you record all the information from the call you received.

That's about it. Minutes are too precious to waste, so make sure you get on this list to save the time, money, and avoid the annoyance.

God Damn Telemarketers. They waste one of my unwasteful minutes, I shall pwn them. I have to register. We have this on my number downstairs and it works. No telemarketers in like 2 years.

i always get this guy asking for day-day.
and it scares me cause he calls me every other day..
and yesterday a telemarketer called me, and i figured out the best way to deal with them.
basically, swear up a storm and end up calling them a cocksucking motherfucker, makes them feel REAL bad inside

Actually one time the owner of my farm called my cellphone about something and my voicemailbox recording is bunny swan and it's like "ooo not here right now call back lata ookay" or something like that--and he heard it. He left a voicemail and he was like "uhh...i'm not sure if this is the right number, but blhbalbhalbhaablh".

Telemarketers (and telephone surveyors, for that matter) are only trying to do their jobs. I mean, how would you feel if you were a teacher with students taking an "opt-out" on lectures? These people need to feed their family, too. I don't see why we shouldn't give them the chance to earn their paychecks.

Or you could walk a mile in their shoes by volunteering for a position in the field (maybe it might have to do with asking college alumni for donations, I don't care, as long as you have to call people to do your job) and experience firsthand all the joke replies, denials, and answering machines you come up against.

But that's just my point of view. After all, the world takes all kinds.

I was a telemarketer for about 6 months. Don't worry, any seasoned person (3 months) justs laughs at people who get mad so they have something different in their day. Most of the numbers aren't home. You get maybe 1 out of 10 that picks up and 1 out of 200 that takes what you're selling (and that's if you're good, otherwise 1 out of 500-700). Oh and the DNC list is a joke because it really garantees nothing unless a whole city takes their numbers off the list, otherwise you'll get called within a year. Remember this too that telemarketers have an answer for practically everything that you can say/ make up so don't waste their time by making excuses, just hang up and hope they don't call you right back with the old "I think our phoneline got cut-off"
