The only place I've been able to use self-checkouts is Home Depot, and even that only in California. Tass and I had a very bad experience with the self-checkouts in a Giant here in PA.

I really really miss Food 4 Less. That is all.
Dang self checkout in the Depot eh? Everytime I see people in the checkout lane they have to get the portable scanner because it's to big to scan on the table. I'd like to see someone self check out like 15 pieces of plywood....... that just wouldn't fly.
What fiasco did we have at the Giant self-checkout? I just don't like it. I'm too lazy to use the damn thing. I'd rather wait 2-3 minutes in line.
But, then again, as I worked inside the place for 2 years... I know everything about it, all the nuances and tricks to quick checkout. (worked in the bank inside it, not for the supermarket... i am above working at a supermarket, but not inside one.)
Tass: "There's the shortest line. GET IN IT."
Whorli: "No! Self-checkout is shorter! GO GO GO!"
Tass: "Fine, you do it. I'm too good to ring up my own groceries...that's what the cashiers are here for."
Whorli: *rings everything through correctly*
Self-Checkout Stand: *BEEPS LIKE HELL* "WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG" (or something along those lines.)
Self-Checkout Cashier: *fixes it...after like 10 minutes*
Tass: "See? They SUCK." (the stands, not the cashiers)
Whorli: "BAH."
- The fewer people in the line, the longer it will take.
- The longest line will take as long as the shortest line.
- No matter what line you are in, you will always have a new cashier. (or at least in my experience.)
- Something will always go wrong with you, or any of the people infront of you.
- They suck.
Hi
Yea i work at Farmer Jack and since im so good, im the only worker with this other badge, it has the Farmer Jack Pladge on it which says...
Freshness counts! Remove it if you wouldn't buy it
Respect your customer as you'd like to be respected
Employees must wear a uniform and a name badge
Smile and say hello
Help keep you store clean
Yea if you didnt notice at all...the pledge spells FRESH
On the back of that it has the Core Values
They are:
Integrity and Respect
Customer Focus
Teamwork
Excellence and Accountability
Learning
Community and Social Responsibility
Anyway...about the whole self-serve registers and all of that. At Farmer Jack it is called the U-Scan and i will admit, there are a lot of stupid people who cant simply scan the upc and put it on the weighed scale in a bag. The computer lady even says, "Please scan the first item, and place it in the bag." How can you do something different? The express lanes usually have newer people that are either training or havent been there that long OR the old cashiers that love to talk about their whole life story to each and every customer. The normal lines still have problems sometimes due to some situations like: Long lines, Cashier needing an override by a manager, or the baggers not being there to bag and instead, sitting in the bottle room. I myself use the U-scan basically everytime because there are 4 stations and i memorized the touch screen like the back of my hand so i get my pop tarts for $2.49 and my coke for $1.39 and get in the break room in the matter of seconds. So yea...
